Beg to differ. I have many, the vast majority, that are well mastered. And these are regular discs, not the specialist MoFi, etc, labels.

    Sounded cold/sterile on my Philips.
But, hey you can skip tracks/songs with remote.
Then there was the naff art design

I understand "analog" as a continuous wave, whereas the sound in digital form would be like "steps". This is where the "naturalness" is lost, in digital.
The recording to tape or record medium allows this wave to be captured. Think of this analogy: A violin bow is to a violin, as a tone arm is to a record.
See the relation? Playing that record of violin music extends the "instrument", these sounds are kept "as instruments". That's analog (imo).

    Good for you. :righton:
Slobs loved cds, because they didn't know how to handle records properly. Yeah, and "skip tracks"...

    My equation is visual.
    See a painting,
    photograph it.
    Could look better cropped.
Crop it ..yes looks much better.
But, detail is lost from the original photo/image.

Nothing like the real thing. Digital art/printing is killing fine art.
People don't know the difference until they go to a gallery. It's like the difference between
music on a cd and a live performance in a great venue.

But it doesn't mean that. Analog(ue) means "We represent information by the magnitude of another physical entity", and digital means "We represent information as numbers." What you said is something else, the words are continuous and discrete. And they are not equivalent. You can have discrete analogue information (think traffic light) and you can have continuous digital information (think slide rule).

The output of a digital to analogue converter is a continuous waveform. It has no "digital residue", you can't tell by looking at or hearing it that it was represented digitally at an earlier stage.

I think of this digitally. Sorry being silly today :). Seriously, I read your analogy but it's just a metaphor that might make sense to you intuitively, and I can see why it's appealing, but that's not how it works. Recording machines are technical devices and not poetry. :)

Yes, I do think of these things intuitively, that is as human as listening to music.

Yes, many people "understand" it like this. But, alas, it is wrong in the first place. Rightout wrong.
There are no "digital steps", to begin with.

    Watch it here:

Yes, that may sound intuitive, but it is misleading.

In the first place, analog instruments are acoustic.

If sound is captured by a microphone, it is converted into an electric signal.
That is where the art gets lost! Electric is bad.

Maybe I should've been more accurate in my earlier comment.

Most CDs are well mastered. It's just the view of a minority of audiophiles that still trots out tired cliches about the format.

Well of course, but how it is "served" is different, the sound is different because of the medium (tape, record).
Electric guitars don't all sound the same. The material mass effects the tone. Material does this (like records and tape is material).

I bought the Metallica record store day cassette a few years back, and one by the Sword. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get my Dragon out of the shop. It's been in there for months.

Oh well, really? I don't believe your science! Music is intuitive, and I only believe my ears. All electric is bad, only analog is good.

I don't like cassette players. Only a cassette recorder is the real thing. I only like the best brands: Sony and Sharp. Amazing with every tape.

    Best regards
