Put on an L.P. and I can tell you from the next room whether the label is era-appropriate or not. I just know.

I didn't like or dislike the newly revived Capitol logo, but I never liked the Warner logo of the 1970s.

I understand the rationale for reverting to their old logo, but that has to be one of the most dated label icons ever. It just screams 70's.

    "We want the Motown audience."

During the time I've purchased Capitol product it seems like the logo used is often artist's choice.

Sadly label design and art work was best during the 78rpm era and has been steadily going down. Maybe recycling designs is a way to just keep looping rather than keep descending.

To be honest I don't mind it on pop and rock albums. I just hope they don't use it on reissues of 50s rock 'n' roll stuff and the likes of Peggy Lee, Sinatra, Nat King Cole etc.

I really like the mid - late 50s turquoise Capitol label as well as the rainbow one.

If the Capitol Music Group site is any indication, the old logo isn't being completely replaced. It's still there for Capitol Music Group, Capitol Christian Music Group, and Capitol Studios. It wouldn't surprise me if different logos appeared on Capitol Records releases on a release by release basis.

Not exactly "same as it ever was", but same as it has been for some time now?

labels 60 & 62 are my favorite Capitol Labels. I with they would revive Label 60 with the logo at the 9:00 position.

Besides the rainbow, this was my favorite Capitol label. Back when Pink Floyd was The Pink Floyd.

Yes, those very label designs are what I am talking about. 72a is especially hideous (arguably my worst major label design ever award). 72r looks a little better.

I still don't get obvious reasons. Capitol with the Capitol building as a logo makes since. I say make a new logo with the Capitol records building as a structure.

They did,for a while, until people complained, then,it was removed. They'd put it on top of the Old Logo and hoped people would respond good, but things got bad!

The Tower icon itself was put in place of the Original Dome Logo,at one point, for only a Short Time! It's now Capitol Music Group's logo.
