I think this is a nice formula, I'll try to borrow it.

    Electric Light Orchestra.
I must admit that I am such a newbie listening their music that I really don't know if these are "rarely heard" or "lower-charting". Anyway, this is my list:
    1) the one that's gonna catch their ear, and say, "That's THEM…?!"
    - Rockaria!
    2) one they expect to hear, and can't possibly concentrate on other stuff until they hear this
    - Turn to Stone
    3) the one that shows off qualities of the artist style they may already be aware of, in a fresh setting - perhaps a live version that opens it up
(OR, a surprising cover that puts the song in a fresh setting)
    - Steppin’ Out (With Richard Tandy; Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra)
    4) YOUR favorite rarely-heard cut
    - Without someone / Need Her Love (Sorry; can not decide)
    5) one of the best lower-charting tracks they may have been familiar with at one time
    - Lonesome Lullaby

Judging from above, it's probably apparent what album I consider to be the band's main masterpiece. :)

It also occurs to me that if you sequence the above as 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, it might even flow extremely well as a "fantasy album side".

Totally, but just cheat and say "Side 1 of Moondance". Hard to argue with that.
