Hmm...I quite liked "All About Waiting." A nice mixture of electronic and rock with a very solid hook. His voice has always been a bit anonymous to me, but this is an enjoyable song. I shall look out for this when it comes out.

He's about to turn 39 years old. Is this his first full solo album?

It's interesting. That first full song sounds like Jeff Lynne is in the house, or at least behind the control board. The chorused voices make it difficult to pick out Dhani (or maybe those are ALL him?) I'd like to hear more and hope it turns out great for him. :)

Yes, it'll be interesting to see who's helping him out on this record. Jeff is an obvious contender, but maybe he's mainly got his contemporaries on board, people like Paul Hicks, Eddi Vedder, Mereki. All possibles. If Jeff is involved my guess is it will only be on one or two songs, likely as producer. Over the years I've quite liked what Dhani has been doing, especially his last couple of soundtracks. I think he was wise to wait a while before putting out his own solo album. He's got a lot of good experience to build on.

I'm going to have my usual rant here and ask WHY does this relatively short 10-track album have to get put out as a DOUBLE vinyl album? The answer presumably is money, a chance to make a few extra dollars of the record-buying public. I would have thought that the younger eco-conscious generation, with their save-the-planet values (nothing wrong with that), would have resisted the conspicuous waste of paper and plastic involved in expanding a single disc release to a double disc release. Okay, I'm done now. And yes, of course, I'll buy this record.

This is actually really quite cool. I'm glad Dhani's out there doing his own thing, he sounds like his father obviously but it looks like he can stand on his own ground as a music artist. :)

Is that not Ringo Starr echoing his vocal during the chorus of "All About Waiting"??

What a great guitar tone. Almost Lanois sounding. Very cool tune. Thanks for the heads up.

Listening to the NPR stream right now. Wow. This is really great stuff.

There's some nice noisy stuff happening in this music, but there's also some static overlay that seems not part of the actual music? I can't tell. Opinions? I can understand if they don't want anyone making a pristine copy from this nice sounding stream. But it could be part of the aesthetic of the music.

Already itching to click 'buy' at my retailer of choice....

Interesting response. Nothing about this sounds '80's to me. While I'm not up to speed on a lot of modern music, I think of the lush but mellow tones of Ray LaMontagne's Ouroboros while some of the electronica is definitely evolved from 90's artist like Beth Orton who integrated dance grooves into very sombre tracks. I'm sure others with more exposure could cite works/artists with more parallels. This sounds wonderfully fresh. I admit, as a groove, it kind of wore on me after awhile. But I'm tired right now. I look forward to hearing it again.

We're certainly not all here to please our dad's or their fans.
