Nice to see all the love for "She's Coming Home." However, I'll choose these three:

    1. Whenever You're Ready
    2. Walking In the Sun (pre overdub vocal version)
    3. If It Don't Work Out

I will never understand why "She Does Everything For Me" was thrown away on a b-side to their final single before O&O. The hypnotic, exotic guitar riff, crazy hand claps, killer chorus, great harmonies, and that awesome final bent note just puts me over every time I heat it.

not sure I can choose only 3.
One of my favourites is The Way I Feel Inside. Colin's voice is beautiful. What a great group they were and like Johnny Kidd and The Pirates, you listen to so many of their records and wonder how on earth they weren't hits.

I love the song. If it was top 5 instead of top 3, I would've listed it.

    1. "She Does Everything For Me"
    2. "The Way I Feel Inside"
    3. "This Old Heart of Mine" (May sound like a weak choice, but it's my favourite cover of my favourite Motown hit)

I was going to say the same thing about it being a B-side. It's a testament to their remarkable consistency.

obviously many more if it were possible

besides Colin's compelling voice and Rod's subtle sophisticated electric piano , and the Argent/White team writing together or individually, the other key factors are the group's combined musical and harmony vocals ability.....plus the late Great Paul Atkinson's subliminal skill as a tasteful mood music guitarist who plays exactly what each song requires and just that

Paul certainly could 'rock' but he always did what was BEST for a song and would put in an understated guitar part if it suited the song better, he was never a flash or 'showy' player more a jazzy flavoured mood music style musician who was such a considerable skill in the band's ranks

his guitarwork on 'Leave Me Be', 'She Does Everything For Me' and 'Indication' each notably display his superb ability as a guitarist

here's Indication - love how Paul's guitar is sort of 'playing at the back' set in well behind the band until he emerges as lead instrument on the instrumental latter section when he features an hypnotic repeated guitar riff, and he plays a solo over it and again then gives way to the growing group choral style vocal refrain and band instrumentation until Rod's keyboards conclude the track

so subtle yet a 'beat group number' !

Billo- that really is a spot on assessment on Paul's playing, whom I admire as a players player a lot. Finesss will always outdo flash in the long run. He also had a unique tone as well.

Small hijack, but kind of mentioned in my previous post............

Imagine if this would've been their 2nd album

    Side A:
    She's Coming Home
    I Want You Back Again
    Whenever You're Ready
    Is This The Dream
    Just Out Of Reach
    Indication
Gotta Get A Hold Of Myself

    Side B:
    I Must Move
    I Love You
    Don't Go Away
    Remember You
    How We Were Before
    Goin' Out Of My Head
    She Does Everything For Me

This would've given Odessey and Oracle a run for it's money as their best album..........(but like O&O, also long after they broke up)

I think I agree. Considering they only released two albums, and a lot of the first album is expendable covers, the band had insane quality control. Even the tracks they left unreleased at the time are better than some of their contemporaries' entire discographies.

My picks, which will probably be different in half an hour:

    1. If It Don't Work Out - such an exhilarating melody, and it's a phrasing masterclass from Blunstone. Those melody lines are so looong and twisty that even Dusty Springfield (arguably the best pop singer in Britain at the time) struggles to make them work, but Blunstone reels them off like single uninterrupted thoughts (is he breathing through his ears?) I really can't imagine any other band being able to pull this song off so effectively.
    2. Don't Cry for Me - One of the very best in the small and exclusive 'you've dumped me and I couldn't be happier!' sub-genre of pop songs (which is a personal favourite of mine). Again, this is just an exhilarating song, with the chord changes, pace and backing vocals adding to a sense of elation.
    3. Indication - Awesome freakbeat, and one of the few between-album singles where I can actually understand why it wasn't a massive hit, because it's pretty damn strange.

The R.I.P. album that came out for Record Store Day a couple of years ago is a fabulous listen too, and doesn't duplicate any of that. Mostly pre-Odessey as well.

Side A is all post-Odessey and Side B is all pre-Odessey with post-Odessey overdubs. So I'd say it's mostly post-Odessey. A hodge-podge of stuff, but still a good record.
