The Universal 1941 "The Wolf Man" is still my "go to" werewolf movie. I'd like the 2009 version a lot better if the CGI were not so blatant, like a piece of woodwork that was not finish-sanded.

It's hard to beat those 5 Chaney Jr Wolfman films, especially the first one and "Frankenstein Meets".

But I'll always have a soft spot for my favorite TV werewolf, "Chris Jennings" (from Dark Shadows).

Maleva the Gypsy Woman (Maria Ouspenskaya) tells Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr) the bad news...

An American Werewolf in London was famous in its day for being the first to show a werewolf transformation in real time with lots of latex and air-bladder technology.

It’s dated technology, but what really sells the movie now is the humor lacking in its box-office rival, The Howling. The ghosts of the werewolf’s victims follow him around (while continuing to decay) and give him helpful advice, like to kill himself (“use a gun!” “Step in front of the train!”)

And, of course, The Howling. I believe it’s the first werewolf movie that the monster didn’t just look like a man wearing a furry mask.
It’s was a straight-up horror movie without the intentional humor of its box-office rival, An American Werewolf in London. I say intentional because it has some laughably bad lines (“Nice Mazda, some of us have to work for a living!”), and the serial-killer is the hologram doctor from Star-Trek: Voyager, Robert Picardo

The werewolf is perhaps the most frightening of all the classic monsters. He can run at blinding speed, he is ferocious, and when he catches you, he can rip you apart with his jaws and his claws.

I remember seeing a feature about the transformation scene in American Wolf In London, how they did it was groundbreaking at the time. If I'm remembering it correctly, the same people were behind the Michael Jackson Thriller video.

That was my thought when a kid. I can outrun the Mummy and Frankenstein or take a plane to Europe and rest easy for a year. I really did make these calculations when I was about 7 years old.

My fav werewolf movie is Silver Bullet (1985)

Although not a good movie the wolfman's physical depiction in the 2010 movie is tops for me. When the claws hit the table at 43 seconds I was impressed!

I can't find the photo as I remember it but there was a publicity shot prior to the 2010 release that got me interested. It showed Lawrence waking up next to a tree in bloody rags and looking distraught. That struck me as a realistic. The worst hangover ever! Similar to this.

Gary Busey is great in this film. And I love that the sister narrates it.

And let's not forget the great Stephen King/Bernie Wrightson collaboration it's based on, Cycle of the Werewolf:

Think about what Lon Chaney Jr.had to go through sitting in that makeup chair for hours, today a little makeup and a lot of[CGI].
