As long as the speakers don't look horrible, I value sound over looks. But it doesn't hurt if they look nice of course!

It definitely comes down to the sound, but I have to say I do baulk at the look of some of the really expensive loudspeakers.

  3. It is totally a matter of taste but I personally don't get the speaker as robot concept/style.

I never thought it would for me, but I was recently auditioning new speakers and I just couldn't get over the horrible design of a particular brand's latest models. Even the color of the wood-grain was unpalatable. I guess when you're spending lots of money for something you'll be looking at every day, these things matter.

The popular B&W 600 series is black vinyl covered. They don't look cheap, but they don't look great either. Dropping down to the Elac Debut and UB5 the vinyl looks cheesy and does not hold up well according to reviewers. I'm not sure anyone really needs exotic hardwoods. Wilson speakers are painted, that's probably good enough for most interiors.

If I was paying Big Bucks, you bet! I'm not paying lots of money for something that is ugly. Otherwise, no....

I think yes. Probably a criteria in the back of my head when determining a list to listen test...but probably would accept a number of looks. At least I'm outside of the price range where real vaneer Vs a vinyl wrap was a consideration.

It's not hard to find good looking speakers that sound awesome.

I don't know about "deal-breaker " but thinking about this, I've owned monkey-coffin speakers and after replacing them with something a little ( or a lot ) more aesthetically pleasing, I'd have some reservations about going back to monkey-coffins. That said, there are some really good-sounding monkey-coffins out there...

I spent some cash to pretty up my Cornwalls - it was well worth it.

  17. I don't care how a speaker looks. As long as it sounds great, looks do not matter. I find my current speakers in my two main systems both boring looking (Triangle Celius) and ugly (Anthony Gallo Strada 2).

Well, that depends on your spending income, doesn't it? For some it could be $10,000.00, others $2,500.00 and still others $25,000.00. If you are asking for me specifically, well somewhere around $3.59 is my budget.

No, seriously, for me, anything over $2,000.00 had better not be ugly. Scratch that. $1,000.00. :) If they are going in the living room where everyone can see them next to the coffee table or whatever, $3.59. :D

  20. That’s funny because I heard some incredibly sounding speakers today. 50k pair. But butt ugly.

If I were buying at that level ( I’m not ) I would pass on these.
