I missed this play directed by Danny Boyle when it was screened live across cinemas dammit. The lead actors (Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller) alternated between portraying Victor and the creature each night. I hope the video montage of it gets a TV screening or DVD-Blueray one day.
Look at all the stills posted from the original movies. They are dynamic and dramatic! Because they are all shot, as the movies were, in glorious Black & White. This is back when B&W cinematography was an art form. What if these movies were made with everything the same, except with our modern color camera's, green screens and CGI effects... Doesn't work for me either... I know that's not the only way, but my favorite way to make a horror film is in B&W. Black and white is an art form in itself. With B&W, you are dealing with large contrast ratio's, both on the screen and on photographic paper. I've done some photography back in my youth, and I simply have a preference for B&W, although, I don't find any objection to color, I enjoy color too. But, the best, most dark and scary monster movies are made in B&W, and if we want to recreate these films, and I think that we should. Wouldn't it be a hoot? It could be shot on a relatively low budget, all that's needed would be a good screenplay.
I always liked Frankenstein Unbound. Nowhere near the best of them, but I liked the storyline....even ended up in the icefields....
If anyone does an image search of this movie, you will easily see why it would terrify a 5 year old. It did me!
I wonder what would have happened if Lon Chaney had played the monster. What marvelous concoction of makeup and contortion would he have invented for this one?
I think that the worst Frankenstein's monster was the pathetic one in[Van Helsing]the movie would've been fine without him.
"body of a boy, mind of a monster, soul of an unearthly thing" - isn't that pretty much every male teenager?
Did you suffer through Penny Dreadful’s sulky, emo Frankenstein? Ugh, worst character in the entire series. PS: Yes, yes. The character’s name is Caliban/ John Clare “the creature”. Frankenstein is the name of the doctor who brought him to life.
A random browser/ collector of stuff when killing time I have a couple of studio Frankenstein photos on my phone that are beautiful for their use of a shallow depth of focus. Right, will go to the laboratory and throw some switches.
I quite like him! At least he had things to say which is more than you can say for a lot of portrayals of the poor soul. "Van Helsing" is a bonkers film but love it!
Tim Burton's 1984 short "Frankenweenie" is really good. You could make a good argument that it's actually his most fully-realized film. There's a redone full-length version from 2012 - haven't seen it, didn't want to, this one's already perfect.
