I've actually stayed there (La Posada), as it is a hotel & restaurant, in addition to being a train station. Very beautiful place! For a true wild, wild west experience, though, there is the old ghost town of Two Guns nearby that is in ruins, but saw a lot of gunfights and such back in the 1870's.

First listen to CD 11 from "Wilhelm Kempff - Solo Piano Recordings" on DG. Beethoven - Sonatas 25, 26, 27 & 29
I've mostly given up posting here although I still read this thread but I am so impressed by this CD I just had to recommend it. I'd never heard of the artist before however I am a fan of Liszt particularly his piano works. Highly recommended (or IMHO essential).
Now listening to CD 6 from "Lumieres - Music Of The Enlightenment" on Harmonia Mundi. Tartini - Concerto Grosso No. 5 performed by Ensemble 415 Tartini - Concerto for violon and orchestra performed by Ensemble 415 Monn - Concerto for violoncello, harpsichord and string orchestra performed by the Freiburger Barockorcheser C.P.E. Bach - Harpsichord Concerto No. 5 performed by the Freiburger Barockorcheser J.C. Bach - Concerto for harpsichord, two violons and violoncello performed by the London Baroque
Now listening to this Melodiya LP, Bach and Schnittke (!) concertos played by Oleg Kagan, 1980 pressing, USSR. Good sound and nimble playing on both. The Bach isn’t really HIP, but it’s played lightly. The Schnittke is really intense, in a good way. Just bought an Okki Nikki yesterday and this is one of the LPs I cleaned up with it. Sounds great.
Now listening to "Bartok - Concerto For Orchestra/Music For Strings, Percussion And Celesta/Hungarian Sketches" performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Fritz Reiner.

Record catalogues: Electrola West Germany Recently, I've been delving more and more into the history of the grammophone and recorded classical music in general. I've been reading books about the subject, but I've also started to look for ephemera from different eras, especially ones that are easy to get here in Germany. Electrola/Die Stimme seines Herrn: Die schönsten Langspielplatten (The most beautiful LPs) 1959 Here is one a discovered: a catalogue for Electrola, the West German branch of EMI. At 64 pages, this is more of a thick brochure than a complete catalogue, but the nice thing is that it has coloured cover reproductions inside, of which I'll share some with you. The catalogue is from 1959 and is organised by price, starting with cheaper 7-inch 45-rpm records and EPs priced at 7,50 Deutschmarks, full-price LPs at 24 Deutschmarks and finally, box sets going for up to 96 Deutschmarks. Checking an inflation calculator, it seems that in order for one to have an idea about what that cost in relation to wages back then, you have to multiply by almost 4x and that will give you the approximate price in today's $ or €. Pretty expensive, right? I don't ever want to hear people complaining about the cost of LPs nowadays. We live in a buyer's golden age. I've made the images bigger, so you can zoom in and have a look at the covers. Many look unfamiliar, even to me, because Electrola used their own cover designs, even though the releases are the same as their UK counterparts in terms of musical content.

Herzlichen Glueckwunsch zum tollen Selbstgeschenkfuerschallplattenliebhaber. Had to make a little bit of fun of German extra large word creations. Anything goes. You are going to have so much fun and every LP will suddenly be a new LP in terms of sound. Good for you!

I bought quite a few EMI Electrola LP's and LP boxes back in the early 80's and they are all in pristine condition. Many of those LP's are Furtwangler's recordings ...
