The 1967 version of Janis' "Down On Me" is inferior to the ferocious live version that appears on "Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits"
I'd have voted for it if it wasn't the studio version.

Thought Pata Pata would be seen as one of the stone cert classics. Fist time something I voted for hasn't done well, but c'est la vie...

I'm going to have to work my way through these. Picked five so far but still have half the list. Never heard Jacqueline Taieb before! That's a good one.

Again, classy choices by the OP.
Don't sleep in the subway is a masterpiece, a producer's dream! California nights is awesome and the choice of the obscure Since you asked a touch of genius.

I'm guessing many here are only familiar with the BS&T cover.

Voted for "First Cut Is The Deepest" even though I think P.P.'s recording is far from the definitive version.

Pleasantly surprised by how well the lovely Lulu (as seen on my avatar) is doing. I know it was a big US hit but still surprised to see how it holds up after all these years.

The order is approximate, from best down to least-best. I don't love any of these songs but they're all pretty good. I listened to several that I was unfamiliar with, including Be Not Too Hard, The First Cut and Voila.

I've never been a fan of To Sir With Love but its flip The Boat That I Row would have easily topped this poll. However, if I'm not mistaken, it was already in a previous poll.
