Question for Bill Hicks fans

Here is the biggest irony about the whole Bill Hicks/Denis Leary plagiarism controversy:

Bill Hicks was an intellectual from Texas.
Denis Leary is a lunkhead from Massachusetts.

For all intents are purposes, Leary dumbed down Hicks' material so that it would have more of an everyman appeal. (I say that having bought No Cure For Cancer before every hearing Bill Hicks.)

Then, Leary parlayed that success into a career that included a successful television series and Ford truck commercials. Like it or not, that's all Leary. The persona is his.

Also, there was nothing that was going to prevent Hicks' death.

But, Hicks will always have the more legendary influence and appeal while Leary continues to get paid by Ford.

Truth be told, nobody really loses here.

 

Hicks more cutting edge, Leary better barber cut.

 

In case anyone doesn't know, Leary also stole the entire concept for his A$$hole song from Louis CK. There's not an original thought in that guy's head.

 

Don't forget those popular "Ice Age" movies!

 

That is true, as much as I love Denis Leary's comedy (or, by extension, Bill Hicks and Louis CK, I suppose)...but he can't even bother to play different characters on his TV shows: The Job, Rescue Me, Sex & Drugs & Rock And Roll- the characters may have different names, professions etc but they are still basically the same extremely flawed person. Hell, I'd be brazen to say that if Diego the tiger from the Ice Age movies was a human he'd probably be a chain smoking, alcoholic, misogynistic scumbag like the rest of Leary's characters!

 

Good point. He's really not an actor. He just plays Denis Leary over and over.

 

If you're familiar with Bill Hicks' material, 'No Cure for Cancer' is just a really **** cover version, basically.

 

Everyone knows it is stolen, and yet nobody knows where I can find the original material.

 

Buy all the albums and the DVDs and watch it all. Take notes.

 

I am going to do that, make the most thorough database ever, and not make it available for anyone on the forum.

The smoking material that was plagiarized is on his first album Dangerous. The best stuff on the whole CD is about his parents and family vacation as a kid.

 

Someone above thought Hicks may have also done material on NyQuil. Do you know if he did, and if so, what album it is on?

 

I can't recall a Hicks Nyquil bit, but it's been a few years.

 

I Googled it and I can't find any hard evidence so I'm going to assume I'm just misremembering.

In all fairness, stealing the a-hole song fits with being an a-hole, so I am going to cut him some slack on it.

You want exact sources? Jeez, there were only about 3 or 4 official Hicks releases before his death, all the source material you need is contained in there.
