You mentioned twice that your bar for keeping is if you can make money back selling it. Could by hypothetical but some people actually buy on discogs to re-sell. The ultimate cheesy flipper of sorts. I always get messaged for "hey can you lower this blah blah"

Not for keeping per se, but rather not returning it and recovering my cost through a partial refund and selling locally at a reduced value due to the condition and I don't ask for partials either. I leave it to the seller to offer that. My first request is always to send it back, which is generally what I prefer to do. My comments have been about how I go about corrected an item not as described situation.

Even if I wanted to buy records from Discogs to resell I'd do legit i.e. pay the price being charged. I definitely wouldn't try and rip someone off by claiming the album was not as described so I could get a discount after the fact. I'm sure some buyers do that.

:agree: And you can bet on some buyers claiming falsehoods. It only happened once to me but fortunately I have my own scans of everything that I keep. Once I clued the buyer into that member leppo and I created the SH Forums CD Grading Guide here he retracted his claws with lightning speed choosing abandonment as his alternative.

Gentlemen and Ladies, the only thing I'm not fond of in these kinds of threads is the mightily broad paint brush used to paint the overall picture by some. Yes, there are those "lazy sellers," but to say the whole site sucks because of your experience(s) is not accurate or fair. There are also a lot of genuinely helpful music fans as sellers there too who do list appropriately. We honestly can't expect a small paid staff to be able to sort through every addition every day on a site that size. It's a monster. I know from personal experience that "if they do catch too many boo boo's" with no response or corrections they will put you on a badboy list with strict limitations until you politely work with them and make an honest effort to learn what is the right way to do things and follow through with correcting your mistakes in previous listings. Unfortunately, not everyone gets caught unless you are adding releases and why the "lazy seller" can sneak by. Always ask questions. Vinyl buyers have it harder by far and where sales reputation would play a large part in purchase decisions I would think. The CD's I have purchased over the years are usually spot on in the grading and anything I have for sale you can guarantee it will be done correctly as I'm dedicated to keeping my 100% positive feedback on every site I sell on.

Actually, it's ignorant, and ridiculous. You can't throw out the baby with the bath water.

I don't think you'd find many people on this forum who would expect Discogs staff to review all seller listings to ensure they are listed properly. They can barely keep up with the stuff they do have to do!

Best thing you can do as a buyer is to ask for confirmation. Most sellers are happy to oblige.

:agree: My buying experiences. Every buyer should have the one time screw up I did and it ended up being my own fault. I ordered what I thought was the CD I wanted according to the CD scan/photo itself linked in the Discogs release. Little did I know there was a 5 or 6 year later remaster/reissue with the exact same UPC code. It's been question time ever since with everything I buy. Fortunately it wasn't one of those arm/leg transactions.

Anyone else getting a Gateway Timeout error right now when trying to view their individual purchase pages? Does this happen a lot?

I'm a newish member and when I finally earned entrance to the classifieds I went on a bit of a buying spree. :help:

In my experience so far, I haven't once had any issues with a buyer or what they were selling; I would say off the top of my head that 90% of the CDs AND LPs (where I agree with Dave, grading is even harder) were graded at least as good as advertised; many were far better than graded. I'm happy to pay a little above discogs prices because I trust the grading here more. I haven't had some of the horrendous experiences on discogs (yet!) that others have had but I've had a couple less than stellar transactions. On SH, no seller has failed to provide additional information when requested and I only request it when it really does make a difference to my decision about whether to buy or not. I'm not a buyer expecting amazon-like shipping speed and always let the seller know that. I do my best to provide feedback but I've gotten a little delinquent lately. :shake: I would probably be buying more, even after my initial splurge, if there was more to buy -- I truly appreciate that the classified section exists and that my only choices aren't discogs, eBay or Amazon!!

    Just my two cents' worth.

Never mind on this. Seems like it was just a problem for a few hours and now works fine.

George, I never heard of "individual purchase pages" -- could you direct me where I could find them??

    Thank you!

If you go to discogs, then Marketplace at the top, then Purchases, then just click on the order number on the left.

Just had a seller refund me 15% because I mentioned how a 3" seam split on the jacket, reminds me to ask sellers to remove the record, even when sealed. That's good customer service right there.

I recently asked for a Discogs seller to cancel my order when they were slow to respond to my order request. When they finally responded they were sarcastic and rude. So, I left negative feedback, explaining my experience. And then, the seller left negative feedback for me (my only negative feedback on Discogs) and left a response to my feedback, calling me a "prima donna." Needless to say, I requested a review of this matter from Discogs. This is my second poor experience with sellers on Discogs.

I buy lots of vinyl from Amazon US and Canada and rarely if ever have a problem. I'm in Canada, so prices are much better than Discogs, due to the much lower shipping with Amazon. If I was in the US I'd probably buy there but just not worth it if your in Canada. Even buying from a Canadian seller on Discogs is expensive because of shipping.
