I'll list below what John Lennon CDs I have. I'm interested to know if there's anything worthwhile (and official) that I should still be considering getting.

I'm keen to have any variations of mixes/edits that have been officially released. I'm less interested in picking up alternate masterings. I would be interested if there was a significantly better mastering out there I could get to enhance my collection.

    Here's what I have-
    2010 Signature Box
Live Peace In Toronto (1995 CD)
    Mind Games (1987 CD)
Walls And Bridges (2005 CD with bonus tracks)
    Shaved Fish (1987 CD)
Milk And Honey (2001 CD with 4 bonus tracks)
Live In New York City (1986 CD)
    Menlove Ave (1986 CD)
Imagine: Music From The Motion Picture (1988 CD)
    "Lennon" 4 CD set (1990)
John & Yoko Interview 6th December 1980 with Andy Peebles (1990 2 CD box)
    Lennon Legend (1997 CD)
Lennon Anthology (1998 4 CD set)
    Double Fantasy Stripped Down (2010)

    Here's what I know I don't yet have-
    Two Virgins
    Life With The Lions
    The Wedding Album

I know there's things like the "Acoustic" album, but not sure whether what I've got above, particularly with the Anthology box, covers it.

Anything else official and worthwhile I should be looking out for?

    Advice appreciated :)

Acoustic has tracks not available on any other release so it's important to get it, if you don't mind the artifacts from rather extreme noise reduction. Only get the 1960s ones if you really, really want to be a completeist, or if you want to hear John sing a snatch of 'Goodnight' (on the Wedding Album).

The US Vs John Lennon soundtrack has an instrumental version of 'How Do You Sleep'.

You're also missing the bonus tracks only available on the remixed albums released 2000-2005.

    Specifically, you need:

John Lennon Plastic Ono Band (released Oct 2000)
Double Fantasy (remaster only - released Oct 2000)
Mind Games - (released Oct 2002).
    Rock N Roll - (released Oct 2004)

All of the above contain bonus tracks, including demos and out takes not on Anthology. Most crucially, Double Fantasy contains the previously unreleased demo 'Help Me to Help Myself'.

It's also worth noting that many of the mixes on the 'Lennon Legend' DVD from 2003 contain mixes that don't fade out (eg Instant Karma). This mix, incidentally, was also released on a CD single of 'Happy Xmas - War Is Over' (remixed) in 2003 (promoting the DVD).

Thanks. I've got dodgy MP3s of those so I'm sure I can manage to survive with just those until I see CDs at a price I'm happy with. I am a completist, but I can't bring myself to pay too much for these particular ones!

Thanks, yes I've heard that, that would be a useful addition.

'Acoustic' is a strange one - a lot of it is already covered on Anthology, but there are some exclusive tracks - so you need it!

You probably already know that Two Virgins and Life With The Lions have already been reissued as part of the ongoing Yoko reissue campaign, with The Wedding Album scheduled for later.

They are not albums you'll listen to often, but if you want everything.....

The Wedding Album is the best of the bunch, IMO.

Come to that, if you really want everything, you'll need the early Yoko albums - some of which have demos with John on acoustic guitar etc.

And a live version of "Attica State" (different from the one on the John Lennon Anthology).

Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon has remixes of "Give Peace a Chance," "Cold Turkey," and "Instant Karma."

The book Lennon Legend: An Illustrated Life of John Lennon has a bonus CD with an exclusive live version of "Imagine."

Frank Zappa's Playground Psychotics has a very different mix and edit of the Fillmore East material on Some Time in New York City.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus has a live "Yer Blues."

The two disc expanded version with the live at Madison Square Garden Thanksgiving 1974 tracks on.
(Forgive my ignorance, I know these appear on the 1990 Lennon 4CD issue, but were they truncated slightly? Do you get the I Feel Fine riff for instance ?....)

These are the Peter Cobbin remixes; they leave the original mixes in the dust..especially of POB, Imagine and Mind Games. If you're a true fan (which it appears you are), they're a must, IMO.

I think you also need the original 80s CD of Milk and Honey for the original version of 'Grow Old With Me'. As I recall, each subsequent CD release has had a different mix of this track.

I was going to say, if you're wanting all of John's musical as well as vocal output, the early Yoko albums are a must. He's the main musician on those, and his guitar and keyboard playing (as well as Ringo's drumming for that matter) are quite a bit different in style and experimentation than that of his own work. In some places it's like he's a whole other guitarist. I just listened to the first disc of the "Fly" reissue last week and he plays some really interesting stuff.
