I forgot what a massively talented pianist he is. Alkan’s music is ferociously hard to play (picture Liszt on crack!), but Smith plays it brilliantly. One of the discs sticks in 2 places, but I’m hoping my new table and cart will deal with it better. Still, 3 LPs for $1.98 (seems to be my record store’s default price!) is a pretty good deal.

Well recorded harpsichord music is a great test of a cartridge’s transient response and detail retrieval. It’s also nice to listen to!

IIRC, Eric had to pay $$ for his use of the Second PC and Symphony melodies in his two songs. He should have given credit.

I am very familiar with Slovenia but Croatia much more so.

An awesome island you could visit with a very short ferry ride from Peljesac peninsula (they have amazing red wine called Dingac) is Korcula, where Marco Polo was supposedly born. What you can see in front of the city is mainland Croatia...so really a stone throw away.
Peljesac is very close to Dubrovik too. Such a beauty. Now even more popular since Game of Thrones was filmed there....

I have quite a few Palestrina recordings by the Tallis Scholars and a few other groups. But are we taking about early music or do we have a disconnect here?

The opera Palestrina by Hans Pfitzner. Confusing due to the name of the opera which is the same as the composer Palestrina.

Mowgli, that was a creepy remark for me, a sensitive little old lady who got mutilated late last night, dude.

But Halloween is coming, so I guess it's fine :)

(That box looks like hours of bliss. Enjoy and please let us know!)

Oh, you're killing me. It hasn't arrived yet! The dealer is supposed to receive a batch of VPI turntables starting tomorrow (Tuesday), so I hope mine is among them. After they install the cartridge, they'll ship it to me. The pictures I posted today show my old one. (In case anyone is wondering why I'm using actual pictures instead of internet ones...probably not...I recently joined a VPI Facebook page, and everyone seems to include shots of their turntables when they post what they are currently listening to, so I'm following suit. It's easy to post in the group via my phone.)

Really? That's sad. Most of the older jazz recordings that I've bought (Davis, Coltrane, Monk, Brubeck, etc.) don't seem to be "brickwalled."

I am sure it will be! Then all the fun starts....breaking it all in....how many hours does your cartridge need to develop its full potential?

What about Barry Manilow with Chopin's Prelude in C used for his 'Could it be Magic'.... that was a huge hit as well.

Colin Jacobsen, Caroline Shaw, John Adams and Nico Muhly are all contemporary classical composers. All except Adams were born in the late 70s or early 80s. The others are all pop/rock. I’m a big fan of Bork and Kate Bush. I think s lot of Bjork’s music may translate well. I’ve heard jazz versions of Kate Bush songs that I don’t like so I’m not sure if her music, or the others.
