ps. the holy pictures is one of the best albums of recent(ish) times if you like fuzz guitars, lazy psych vocals, and electronics.

  2. When I first got it I had this reaction. After several months of listening there is about half the album I really like with the other half leaving me cold.Still a massive comedown after what had come before(if I had to list my favourite 10 albums from the last ten years both The Suburbs and Reflektor would probably be in there).

I didn't find it disappointing mostly because after Reflektor I just have zero expectations for a new Arcade Fire album.

Neil Young - The Visitor. On the 4th song... not sure how much longer I'm gonna last.

Agreed. I was a fan of the other 3 albums....this one not so much other than 1 or 2 songs

I was pretty disappointed in The Strypes -- Spitting Image.

I was most disappointed though with Giles Martin's Sgt. Pepper remix. :thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow

This was my first experience with them and the three tracks they had to stream before the release were fantastic. Super catchy pop music. I haven’t gone further but I’m going to.

I think it's good-not-great by their standards (the NPs may be my favorite currently active band) and I miss the apparently temporary non-participation of Dan Bejar, though I recognize that his songs are not to all tastes.

Mass Romantic and Twin Cinema are justifiably considered the career high points, though I would put Brill Bruisers and Challengers just a hair below.

I admit I do not understand them. As with QotSA, they seem bland and boring and I have trouble seeing the draw.

I've played We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves by John Maus a lot -- a lot -- over the past five years, but Screen Memories just didn't connect with me in the slightest. I gave it multiple plays in multiple ways -- my car, my office, my basement, etc. -- and while the aforementioned Whiteout Conditions by The New Pornographers clicked in half-way through the third listen, Screen Memories just got more wispy, distant, and opaque with each visit. And that's my gauge of disappointment. Won't be throwing it away any time soon, however.

Man... Is it that bad? Have not been hearing nice things about his upcoming album.

I will have to go with Beck's newest album as well.
I was really looking forward to it, as I adore all of his older stuff.
I bought the CD on release day, got home, listened to it... And nothing really connected or gelled the way things normally do with his music.

No, I won't throw it away. An album is an album! This CD will still belong with the rest of my collection, it just won't be played as much.

Again, this is coming from a huge Beck fan!

I really liked the Cheap Trick, QOTSA, and LCD Soundsystem albums  In terms of my disappointments, however...

    Wire - Silver and Lead

I love Wire, but I played this one four or five times and just gave up. I'm someone who is perfectly willing to be patient and give an album a chance to be a grower, but something, no matter how minor, has to stick out after a few plays. Looking over the song titles now, I can't remember anything about it other than the fact that it was pleasant sounding but faceless. Wire being Wire, a bad album would be easier to take than a boring one. This one's boring :(

    Pallbearer - Heartless

Same deal here. Five or six plays, couldn't remember anything about it.

The new Steven Wilson...I love PT, his production work, and his remixes. This just left me thinking "huh, this is what happens when prog gets as vapid and slick as mainstream pop."

No catchy choruses?! Say it isn't so, as Hall & Oates used to say.:)

I'll give it a listen on Spotify later but did hear Fort Knox last night. What a racket!

Imelda May - Life Love Flesh Blood

Loved the first single....but the album hasn't clicked with me at all yet.....

It sitting on the shelves though so will keep persisting every once in a while.

I think the last two albums are kind of prog rock without balls :). And there's no tunes really. The Iggy album was pretty good though.

Well, they had a great drummer on that one, you know.

The tunes are there, you just have to be patient. Title track on ...lc contains Josh's best singing ever. But we do not have to agree ;)

There's actually stuff I like on it but it's just too much for me. It's grown from "horrendous" to "this will be a grower". :D

I’ve just finished listening to it on Spotify and have to say it sounded better as a whole. I’ll definitely pick up the CD. Such a turn around from yesterday.:D

I dunno man, a lot of this is pretty earworm-y. She Taught Me How to Fly especially jumped out at me first time through.
