I'm playing this now. These jazz 'Standards' are songs than many pop stars believe they can pop into the studio and bang out. NOT THE CASE!! They will show you up if you are not proficient!
It's not a bad album but there are moments when his voice doesn't quite sound 'easy'.

Forgive me but I don't understand those figures. I guess it's about compression. Can you inform me on what is good and what is bad there?

Has any singer in the last 40 years worn a bow tied that was actually tied?

In my listening experience anything below DR7 sounds too compressed and results in ear fatigue.

Songs are starting to sound really good/dynamic at DR9.

  6. I've heard a few decent-sounding CDs with DRs in the 8s and 9s, but generally anything below that is a classic victim of the loudness wars. Most reference masterings on CD and digital range from 10-14.

Can't be selling many records i suppose. Oh look, here is yet someone else going back to sing 'standards', how surprizing.

I liked this far more than I was expecting to. People should listen without prejudice and have an open mind.

This makes the Bono duet seem like classical music.

  12. Considering I really don't enjoy Sinatra's Christmas music, it's not terrible. It's a solid, if routine, rendition of the Christmas song.

When I picked up the Seal "Standards" album I noticed there was a deluxe version with some bonus Christmas songs. Those didn't interest me so I went with cheaper version.

This album flew under my radar until recently. I picked up the Deluxe edition (which has a few extra bonus tracks) because I like both Seal and standards and I was really impressed with it.

He does the standards justice. I recommend this. It's well worth giving a chance. :righton:
