Surprised nobody has mentioned(unless I missed it): Oingo Boingo I loved their Halloween Farewell Concert(my first exposure to them along with their final album under just the name 'Boingo' for some reason-great album). Check out this song(Hey) from their last album. Awesome!
Apart from the pride of Athens (GA), the following left their mark on me after long periods of resistance. I was a teenage anti-80s music snob until 1985 but at college and for a short while I liked these bands. The Smiths The Waterboys Echo and the Bunnymen U2
What’s interesting about this thread, apart from the gratifyingly Waterboys-love, is the dearth of quintessentially 1980s synth pop acts.
I was toying with putting Devo in my list (posted earlier), but then Wall Of Voodoo (who did make my 'B' list) essentially did the same thing but with an added spooky C&W twang. Although I possibly love the solo output of both/either of WoV's lead singers, Stan Ridgway and Andy Prieboy, more than WoV itself... Also I missed out a few personal favourites who were around, but who'd had their first major hits in the late 70s and either split or became less interesting by the early 80s, like The Jam and The Stranglers.
Solo Favs for the 80's: 1. Peter Gabriel 2. Kate Bush 3. John Hiatt 4. Lucinda Williams 5. Richard Thompson (not necessarily in order I might add).
Must have been. The Hooters had a couple of minor hits as did The Fix. The Hooters The Fixx The Fixx - One Thing Leads To Another
You hit all the cylinders....u.k...wise may I add....1-the beat...2-the chameleons....3-simple minds....4-tears for fears....and 5-xtc!
.....there was good music in the 80s? Okay. Just kidding (mostly). Here are a few that stand out to me (in no particular order): Queen Toto David Bowie Ozzy Osborne Hall & Oates Honorable mention: Bee Gees (couple of good albums released in 80s) Don't get me wrong, I do like some 80s music. Just not my favorite decade for music.
