Is the stereo version of this one worth seeking out or am I set with the mono version?

Never heard the stereo. The mono Atlantic reissue sounds great, vinyl quality is good, thick jacket, i’m set and won’t be seeking out the stereo anytime soon.

A Love Supreme (due to this thread)
    Most played at home:
Crescent (Lonnie's Lament always gets me)
Those are the 2 CDs I sit down and listen from start to finish.

Most of the times I do some cherry picking. As you can see from my "Crescent" preference I love his impulse softer moments: After the rain, in a sentimental mood... Spiritual (live)...

But please don't tell anyone, the CD I played most times all these years is one I have in my car: a copy - from my MP3s -with almost 80min of a self made Atlantic years best of... Great stuff!

In anticipation of the Miles Bootleg 6. The sound quality of The Last Tour is ok. Stockholm complete is excellent.

Afro Blue Impressions. Sound quality is better than I expected and Elvin is really kickin' it.

That one just blew me away the first time I heard it on the radio. What can you say about Elvin, he just absolutely tears it up on that one. And the ending, now that is what I call a climax!

Generally my favorites are Live at Village Vanguard (Master Takes CD) and Coltrane's Sound... but I often have Live At Birdland on repeat, as I also listened to it recently.

This is one on iMPULSE! I have heard but don't remember much about it. I will have to do something about that.

...finally able to sit my ass down for the day and free the mind.
Now spinning disc 4 of The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard.
I love...no, I LOVE the fact that Eric Dolphy is on these dates. I especially dig his bass clarinet.:thumbsup:

Dolphy on any instrument is great, but on bass clarinet is magic.

I'd long had 13 of the 22 tracks on The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings spread across four other CDs, but I had to pick up that set. It's one of the most important releases in the history of music as far as I'm concerned. And regarding '65 'Trane, I think the best of that year is Transition, recorded in June. It really is what the title indicates. Moving a little further out (and later in the year), we have the juxtaposition of Meditations (Nov '65, including Rashied Ali and Pharoah Sanders) and First Meditations (Sept '65, which is much of the same material but explored by just the classic quartet).

    Hey Jim,
    I have this one,
    Live at the Village Vanguard:
    The Master Takes

you should take a look at it before buying the impressions CD.
Just make sure you have "after the rain" somewhere else.

man, this record sounds so, so good! bloody cheap too. was considering the Atlantic box, but I've got most of the albums anyway in one format or another, so just cherry picked GS and Ole. very nice indeed!

Got up early to mark some grade 12 essays, and the cd version of Dear Old Stockholm - both the track and the collection (it’s outtakes, isn’t it?) - currently soothing the entrance to Wednesday.

    Dear Old Stockholm
    After The Rain
    One Down, One Up
    After The Crescent
    Dear Lord

Think my favorite Coltrane is First Meditations. Prefer it to its big brother.

Seeing McCoy T in NY in Feb. Wow. He’s on his piano solo right now in Dear Old Stockholm. Awesome. Nope, JC has just re-entered.

Out of respect for the original release, or because of the SQ?
