Between the sunburst Les Paul I had and lugging this beast around back in my 20's I am surprised I can even walk now.
Hadley Caliman - Iapetus A big box of joy arrived today from Dusty Groove including the latest, massive "New Jazz Festival" set from Be! Records and an awesome clutch of classic Mainstream titles. Many grails are in this latest reissue campaign including this one.... Hadley Caliman's classic of spiritual jazz Iapetus. There is a God!
Paul Bley (piano), Franz Koglmann (trumpet, flugelhorn), Gary Peacock (bass) - Annette (1992). Compositions (mostly) by Annette Peacock.
Time to start rotating some seasonal favorites into the mix. The Dreamers/John Zorn: A dreamer's Christmas Marc Ribot − guitars Jamie Saft − keyboards Kenny Wollesen − vibes, chimes, glockenspiel Cyro Baptista − percussion Joey Baron − drums Trevor Dunn − acoustic and electric Bass Mike Patton − vocals (1 Track) The only Zorn album you can safely pack along to your holiday gatherings that won't alienate or provoke protest? Possibly. One of my favorite albums of Christmas tunes played by a crack band of master musicians who also record somewhat regularly for Zorn's Tzadik label as "The Dreamers". A floating, yes 'dreamy' sounding effort with interpretive twists to hold one's interest throughout. Replete with sticker set to keep the kiddies occupied. The ending track features a straight (ish) vocal from Mike Patton. Good stuff. Check out their 'secular' releases as well. This just happens to be the same band I posted the other day from their Marciac performance.
I can't remember tbh but I don't think so. Mine was issued by Fantasy. This is some of my favorite Bill Evans so I gave it serious thought but in the end I am happy with what I have and don't feel a need to upgrade. This box I have is already large and unwieldy so I can't imagine dealing with twice as many records.
I don't think this new "reissue" of seventies Massachusetts avant garde music has been mentioned in this thread and so I'm going to do so. . . . A friend of mine was involved in the reissue and it's a real labor of love. Excellent sound and mastering on basic, realistic recordings and I didn't know how I was going to take to this material, but I found myself really enjoying it. The 3 CD release is quite inexpensive and the reissue has made its way to the top of my list for 2017 releases. Michael Cosmic / Phill Musra Group – Peace In The World / Creator Spaces
Sun Ra RSD Black Friday set.Sadly i was busy and couldn't get to the store on Fri to get the 3 record set of this. But was lucky to find the 2 CD set still available on Sat and the last one to,at a great price .Some very cool music from Sun Ra and the Arkestra.
Yeah I got this from Amazon a few weeks back but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I also got the German Oak 3CD set from Now-Again. It looks too sweet for words!
Lucky Thompson – Home Comin' (LRC Jazz Classics / Groove Merchant) — With Lucky Thompson (soprano & tenor sax), Cedar Walton (piano & electric piano), Larry Ridley or Sam Jones (bass), Billy Higgins or Louis Hayes (drums). Also known as "Tea Time," this is a collection drawn from his two Groove Merchant titles "I Offer You" and "Goodbye Yesterday" issued around 1973. (They probably could have included both full CDs, but I guess LRC doesn't work that way.)
I picked that one up a few months ago on my trip to LA (and including a jaunt to Amoeba Hollywood in the mix). I love it.
