  1. Back in the summer of 1978 when I was 12 years old there were only 2 new albums I was listening to:

I picked four from the list.

Costello's "This Year's Model" is a Top Five album for me for the period 1978 till the present (could be Top Two along with Nirvana's "Nevermind").

What an awful list. I own just one album on it, Muddy Waters, but even that one is just 'okay', a pale shadow of Muddy in his prime 25 years earlier.

Some of y'all need to get out of your comfort zone! There's a lot of other music out there -- from every year -- that's not the Beatles, Zep, the Stones, and Springsteen, and a lot of it is really good. There are at least 10 four to five star albums on this list alone.

Good year for music. I voted for Big Star - Third because that's my favorite of those listed. However, I think actually my absolute favorite album from 1978 is Ramones - Road To Ruin.

Reading this thread just reminds me how many good LPs were released in 1978, it was a fantastic year for me personally, I was 20 years old and life was exciting . I played Some Girls more than any other that year, it still sounds good 40 years later!

The available choices certainly don't match my taste - but that's cool - different strokes for different folks. Looks like I was listening to "dinosaurs" back then - although in 1978 they sure as hell weren't dinosaurs yet...

    Double Vision - Foreigner
    Styx - Pieces of Eight
Stranger in Town - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
City to City - Gerry Rafferty
But Seriously Folks - Joe Walsh
    At Budokan - Cheap Trick
    The Cars - S/T
    Van Halen - S/T
Grease - Soundtrack (although I wouldn't have admitted it publicly at the time)

...and just for fun - here's some singles I enjoyed...
    The Groove Line - Heatwave
    King Tut - Steve Martin
Imaginary Lover - Atlanta Rhythm Section
Magnet and Steel - Walter Egan
Bluer than Blue - Michael Johnson
Fool if you think it's over - Chris Rea
