Horace Silver - Song For My Father (Blue Note) NY stereo pressing First press so the title song is absent of the tape anomaly found on subsequent pressings. I didn't know about the defective tape until Music Matters reissued the album with a digital fix for the issue. I don't play it much these days but like Lee Morgan's Sidewinder I still enjoy it a lot when I do give it a spin and it's only the "hit" on both albums that has been over played, sampled, borrowed, etc. The rest of the music is always fresh sounding to me. Case in point is Calcutta Cutie with some excellent help from Blue Mitchell.

“Calcutta Cutie” makes the entire album for me. What’s this defective tape issue of which you speak? I’ve seen several pressings of this album (not sure what pressings as I never really looked at the label and even if I would’ve it wouldn’t’ve helped as this was before I ever did any research on the history of Blue Note labels) show up in the bins here in town but they’ve all been such crackle jacks that I did listen much to them or get one.
I haven't listened to this one in a long time but I remember liking it quite a bit. Thanks for the reminder to dig it out.
Miles Okazaki's Trickster, on Pi Recordings--this is a recent favorite of mine. Great, groovy tunes and interplay, with great musicians. Strong Steve Coleman influence here. Very accessible and fun recording that I've been listening to over and over for the past couple of weeks.
The beginning of the title track has a tape flutter that is very noticeable. The only copies hat don't have it are the first pressings i.e. New York pressings. Something happened to the tapes but I don't know the details. It's the only spot on the entire album with the issue so it's a huge deal. Music Matters made a digital fix that was very manual if I am remembering correctly. It's here on the forum somewhere, probably in the MM thread. So they performed digital surgery on an otherwise analog pressing. It was the only way.

Thanks! Ah, Plangent Process, something probably familiar, at least in name, to many a Grateful Dead fan.
All the volumes in this series are excellent. I really like Neto's playing. Jose Santos Neto "Jazz Masters Vol. 4" Adventure Records
That record is not as rare as you might think. I have come across four copies just at local garage sales. There should be a box set which has every Jimmy Giuffre sideman record with a solo by JG.
I know very little of Chet's discography to be sure if this is the best one. It's the one that I play and enjoy. The fact that Bill Evans played on it was the main reason why I first paid attention. The "Keepnews Collection" also helps. Sounds great with the morning coffee: Chet Baker - CHET, 1959 (magical year)
