What 4 track ya got? I use a Fostex x-12, it's perfect- no bells or whistles at all, just plug in, toss in a tape and away you go!:righton:

I've got a Tascam Portastudio 424 mkIII. It's lasted almost 2 decades for me. The transport still works perfectly, only one of the xlr mic inputs still work so I just route that to whatever channel I'm recording to, the fader on channel one only goes up to 9...I work around what's broken. oh yeah the line outputs only work if you jiggle the output cables just so, so mixdown can be a nightmare with the sound cutting out. I'm always on the lookout for type II tapes at summer garage sales. That Fostex looks sweet, I need a simple one like that since I don't really use the EQ. Does it punch in?

The X12 doesn't punch in. It's about as basic a four track recorder as you can get...no EQ, nuthin'!

It's not an X12 but this little Tascam guy looks pretty close when it comes to basic, no frills recording:

And from last month, more twiddling...
Like the previous one, this was done just to keep my hand in, as I have got out of practice with recording as my band is hellishly busy.

I play bass guitar and jam with some friends and occasionally bits of music happen.

    Like this track:

    Frankenfido - Heartless

What started out as a kinda King Crimson number gradually morphed into 80s vocoder disco pop

There's a 24-bit 96 kHz surround sound mix available here (free download for month of February).

Would love to hear some opinions, positive or negative.

Had a solo project in the early 2000’s. Dark ambient with big tribal drums. Still pretty happy how it turned out. Releases a cd and played a few dozen gigs opening for local rock and metal bands. I miss playing live. Signed an autograph too.

    I peaked early.

Aside from working new original material, I've been plugging away at some of Dylan's bluesier numbers and arranging them for solo fingerpicked acoustic.

"Dirt Road Blues" is heaps of fun to muck around with:

Back in 1987 I spent the redundancy money on a ReVox B77 twin track tape deck.

I took it out of its box, plugged electric guitar into 2 by 12" combo amplifier, turned reverb up to full, connected amplifier output directly to the aforementioned ReVox, and did a self duet. 15" per second.

Many years later I connected the ReVox to a Philips 951 standalone CD recorder, transferred to digital, and this is the result...
