I just picked up the selt-titled Loma lp on Sub Pop and I absolutely love it. To make things better, my black lp is perfectly pressed. In case you were wondering, the US pressing is mastered by Calbi with Steve Fallone and cut by Janos at Sterling. The band is Jonathan Meiburg (best known as the singer of Shearwater); Emily Cross and the multi-instrumentalist and engineer Dan Duszynski from Cross Record. Here is more to information about the band: Loma
I have the Loser Edition and no problems with my copy. I love this album - it has an evocative, cinematic quality to it and is very good about creating a mood. It also nails the more uptempo bits like "Relay Runner".
Anyone have DR readings on this yet? Shearwater's albums have been less and less dynamic as of late, so I'm curious. Likely buying it regardless.
Listened to it last Sat on Tidal, really enjoyed it so ordered it on vinyl. Got the Loser edition, but sadly here in the U.K. it’s clear vinyl only. Plan on spinning it later this afternoon.
I saw these guys in the UK recently. Nice, tight little venue. Damn, they are so good. A really great live representation of the album. If you get the chance to see them, I highly recommend. And the album is really something.
Also saw them recently and it was very good. Also would recommend to check them out. They can really use the support and are lovely people..
I never replied to this one? Shame on me. Was late to the party but picked this up maybe a year back now(?) and it's gotten lots of play time. Just did a re-spin this weekend which is how I came across this, via a search.
Jonathon sent out a email this week saying the second Loma album was basically finished. No release date yet. Even more excitingly he has started work on a new Shearwater album-the crowdfunded one.Never been able to understand why Shearwater didn’t get to much greater levels of success.America’s great “unknown” band.
New album Don’t Shy Away out 23 October.Announcement tomorrow. New Shearwater album proceeding nicely according to Jonathan.
Yes, they are consistently great, conceptually and sonically. Wonderful music. And as you said rocky/catchy enough to find broad acceptance. I haven't listened to Loma much. I must give them more a try, if also to support him/them. Also Shearwater are fantastic in concert.
