I've been a member for a while, but have not been real active . I'm told there is a classifieds section, but I guess I don't have enough posts to have access to it. Seems that I read where fifty posts are required. I may not live that long. Suppose I could start a thread, such as this one, and bump, bump, bump till the required quota is reached. Would that work?

Go to the forums and engage in some discussion. Before you know it, your at 50 posts.
You may not live that long? There's no guarantees for any of us, ya know! :righton:

You have to have 50 posts.
There was a guy who did just this in order to scarf Bowie cds.
He grabbed them up, then no more posts.
I'm not implying that that's your intention!

    Welcome to the Forums!
    Read and post.

A while back, when I was discovering the forums for turntable , LP info and such, I subscribed to a few. I've spent the bulk of my time on one forum, occasionally checking in on the others. I enjoy, among other things, checking out classifieds.

Posting and not lurking will get you access. :)

And only posts in Music Corner, Audio Hardware or Visual Arts count! :)

Those 50 posts are somewhat of a character reference too. The Gorts read those posts, and determine that you're not just here to get to the classifieds.

I'm getting the feeling there is something uncool about being interested in the classifieds? I have had access to and used the classifieds on other boards/forums and there has been no problems, and I don't recall any difficulty gaining access to them. In any case, it is what it is.

A certain amount of trust has to be established, when making what are sometimes, expensive online transactions. Both the buyer, and the seller need to feel secure, and protected.

  11. Didn’t help me from getting ripped off recently. I say that not as a slight against this Forum but rather the 50 post minimum doesn’t stop all the thiefs. Buyer beware. And use PayPal, who helped refund me.

Sorry for your situation, and exactly what I had in mind when I spoke of trust earlier. Nobody wants to be ripped off, and I hate to see it happen to anyone.

Pay Pal Only in effect for 2 years now too : http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/new-classifieds-payment-policy.498462/

I think the no previous feedback would have put a cautionary idea in my head. Sorry you got burned Shawn.

Found that I can't even upload a file. Think it was a jpg of an album cover or something , I tried to upload in one of the threads. It is what it is.

Those days of simple uploading passed years ago. Now you either have to use a site that hosts your photos, or what I do, use COPY, knowing it'll either disappear in time, or maybe stay.

When I try to upload, I get a message "Uploads are not available" . I figure I just don't have enough posts under my belt.

In the Classifieds yes, assuming you're talking about from your PC, but no where else. I'm not sure how it works but copy image and paste seems to work in Firefox without an issue. Maybe because it is hosted somewhere else is why.

I just found this thread because I googled Steve Hoffman Classifieds. It's interesting to learn about the 50 post minimum thing. I get it. I've been a member for 8 years, but only have about 20 posts. Like the OP, I'm a lurker and reader, but not always big on jumping into the conversations. I've mostly used the SH forums as a place for gathering information and and recommendations. Would love to get access to the Classified, so I guess I need to get another 30 posts or so. Or 29 as of now!

Bob, as Gort Gary notes above, you have to post in the Music Corner, Audio Hardwre or Visual Arts forums to count towards the 50-post minimum:

Looks like I've caught some catching up to do! I'm in Nashville as well. And I used to see John Prine at the Kroger in Green Hills all the time, it seemed. A nice way to enhance any visit to the grocery store!

Do you like jazz or classical? There's threads were everyone just posts what they are currently listening to, and folks will comment on it. It's a cool way to get some good recommendations also. Another thing about the threads- people post YouTube links which show up as videos no problem every time, as opposed to photos links which don't work.
I read for years and never posted. Now I can't shut up haha. You got this!
