What is your favorite music from a video game? I was thinking especially of classic video game from the 70's, 80's and into the 90's.

I love a lot of the music doe for Nintendo / NES games like the Goonies II music for Level 1:

and a lot of Capcom's music for the Mega Man games is really outstanding:

    Prologue/Title - Megaman 2 Music Extended

And who can forget the Super Mario Bros. overworked theme?

    Super Mario Bros. Theme Song

Super Mario 64 had some absolutely fantastic music- my favorite being the Dire, Dire Docks theme which is really beautiful.

Dire, Dire Docks (OST Version) - Super Mario 64 Music Extended

And I have to mention the first level theme from Donkey Kong Country (plenty of great music throughout this game too!):

Donkey Kong Country - Jungle Groove

The score from the original Legend of Zelda belongs right beside Super Mario Bros and Mega Man for classic NES music.

For a more modern choice, the Fallout series has some fantastic ambient scores.

I never played the oldies classics but The Elder Scrolls series have some of the most beautiful music ever included in a game. Courtesy of Jeremy Soule.

Super Mario Kart was always a favourite:

I’ve been playing Castlevania 4 via the SNES mini and that has some great tunes.

As others have mentioned: Zelda, Mario, Megaman, Sonic... always liked Street Fighter 2’s soundtrack. I have the 3rd Strike OST on CD.

Much like movies, most of my favourite games also had great soundtracks.

    Starfox...

A bit more modern but Halo had some great music.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is an unbelievable symphony of wonderfulness.

It's the greatest score to anything I've known.

Kid Icarus, Metroid (both done by Hip Tanaka, a great composer and innovator at Nintendo, who did more music than I can list. He also created some things, like the Game Boy camera and printer. Look him up!)

Also, Koji Kondo is a legendary composer for Nintendo, and did some of my favorites. The Legend Of Zelda series, Pilotwings (he also did the music for the Super Mario games, as well)

    FFVII
    Chrono Trigger
    Super Castlevania IV
    Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night
    Final Fantasy VI

    Super Mario World

    Super Mario 64

The Elder Scrolls Series (from Morrowind on, which is where Jeremy Soule came aboard)

    Ocarina of Time

    Donkey Kong Country

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (i usually find the Pokemon scores to be a bit repetitive, this one is a big exception, especially tracks like Littleroot Town)

    Edna & Harvey series

If you've never heard this, you need to listen. It's especially incredible to listen to as you watch Sephiroth cast Super Nova, and watch it literally wipe out every planet it comes across.

Much of the first two Monkey Island games' music. Just replaying my fave game LeChuck's Revenge, and thought to myself, Rum Rogers' island's theme has very Steely Dan-ish chord progression in it (the whole riff around 15 seconds in, for instance, sounds a fair amount like Home At Last to me).

The NES Ducktales game had some memorable tunes, especially the moon theme:

Also, the Megaman and Castlevania series had terrific music most of the time

Don't know if anyone has listened to these guys; there's a million bands out there like this now. These guys were one of the first, though.

That is awesome! That band needs to do some of the Mega Man music (I bet they already have). :)
