I was going through a second-hand bookshop a while back, and found some Jackie magazines from 67-68. Jackie, for the uninitiated, was a girls magazine which mainly focused on a mixture of pop, fashion & beauty tips, and soppy pictorial love stories. I particularly love the pop gossip section (Syd Barrett!) , and I've scanned that, along with a couple of other pages for your edification:

Jackie was massive in the 70s. Of course, it was ‘for girls’ so for a lad to be seen with a copy would mean he’d be subjected to endless ridicule. What I remember about the mag is that it was quite large, but every so often the middle page ‘pinup’ would be either a 2 or 4 part meaning you’d get the rest over the next few weeks. Often, you’d end up with a really huge poster.:D

If I’m not mistaken that set came with a double-sided poster of David Cassidy and Donny Osmond!

    Yep I have it.
When marc Bolan began to break big in 1979 Jackie had him on the cover straight away. He was the first new pop star for ages and they were all over him.
They did the famous three part double page poster so as you say, you had to buy it every week. They later repeated this for David Cassidy, Donny Osmond etc

Any chance you could post some pages that feature Jimi Hendrix? He was covered quite a few times in Jackie if I'm not mistaken.

My sister used to get Jackie magazine in the 60s. She would put colour photos of The Beatles and others on her bedroom wall and she gave me the black and white ones which remained for my wall:mad:.
In the 80s, I found an old copy in a junk shop pile with this photo inside:

It's topical now as as another snap from that session is used for the next Hendrix release (though in a severely retouched form).

Can't claim to have read the magazine, but my wife also has this Jackie CD collection which I have ripped. Not saying I love every track, but there is a lot of good music on there and it certainly takes you back!

You pulled the poster out in a newsagents? Obviously you didn't buy it! :D

It was the first and best of the comps. Though I think a couple of tracks are ‘later’ re-recordings. David Cassidy’s Daydreamer certainly isn’t the 1973 single...

To be honest, I rarely bought Jackie. The girl next door had it delivered though and would give me any articles/posters I wanted. As long as she didn’t want them herself, of course.:)

Have you seen the prices of old copies of Jackie on eBay?:yikes: It’s one of the most expensive of the seventies mags. And it was pretty cheap back then too.

If it has some good articles, then perhaps not surprising. It was pretty disposable back in the day, so I suppose the number of copies still in existence is rather small.

Have to be honest and say I've not ever looked on eBay for a 70s copy of Jackie! I don't think I've ever had a copy in my hand, though that article from the 60s did look gear, man!

The early to mid 70's were it's hey day.
Marc Bolan, Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, David Essex etc
At one time there were very few of the types of magazines, fabulous 208 was another. When Marc Bolan broke big in the early 70's it opened the floodgates to a whole new era of pop stars. The magazine industry was straight onto this and started launching new pop mags like PopSwap.

My sister had a double page poster of the Alice Cooper Band on her wall from a Jackie magazine in 1972. Not your usual teenage pin ups . Lol.
