You all do realize that if y'all start listing rock, or even pop songs with what were then questionable lyrics, but looked at now with 20/20 hindsight.
This thread could potentially be 5000 pages long. Just saying!
Just off the top of my head...
    Boy Named Sue
    Stray Cat Blues
    Indiana Wants Me
    When You Were Mine
    Brown Sugar
    Stagger Lee

The only problem with revisiting stuff from the past with a current perspective is that you can find yourself dancing perilously close to censorship. There's already been articles about how some people have been uncomfortable with current takes on old musicals like Carousel or My Fair Lady. Beware folks.

    Agreed.
Sometimes best not to over analyze.

After reading what the theme of this thread is, shouldn't it be "Eeeeewww!"?

This is a cracking song, from one of my favourite artists but the lyrics are, ‘open to interpretation’,

    “Hey, where did we go
    Days when the rains came
    Down in the hollow
    Playin' a new game
    ...
    My brown eyed girl
    You my, brown eyed girl”

    And whatever happened
    To Tuesday and so slow
Going down the old mine with a
    Transistor radio”

After which, it gets slightly more questionable,

“Now that I'm all on my own
I saw you just the other day
    My, how you have grown
Cast my memory back there Lord

    Sometimes I'm overcome thinkin' 'bout
Makin' love in the green grass
    Behind the stadium with you
    My brown eyed girl
    You my, brown eyed girl.”

Like I say, a lovely song but one with as many hidden shallows as it has depths.

I always thought it was funny that they went through a certain rock star’s laptop to find trouble when they could have just listened to Gary’s Greatest Hits.

We could do this all day:

    Rock Around the Clock
    Pictures of Lily
Turning Japanese (from two different angles)

    It's only Rock and Roll.
    But I like it.

The Records - Teenarama. Great power pop song......loved it when I first heard it back in 1979 when I was 18, but at 56 now the lyrics can make me cringe. Still love the song though.

    I wanted a holiday
    You sure had a lot
    To say every night
I thought that a younger girl
    Could show me the world
    That was right

    Co-co-co-cola
    Is all you ever drink
    The way you smile
    The way you wink

    Teenarama
    Is what you're givin' me
    (What you're givin' me)
    Teenarama
    Injections in the knee
    (Injections in the knee)
    Teenarama
    All that mellow drama
    Gimme gimme gimme gimme
    Gimme gimme
    Teenarama

I wanted a change of style
    To be with a juvenile
    For a week
    So I rented an apartment
Then you went and lost the key

    Sugar candy
    Is all you ever eat
    You're so skinny
    You're so sweet

    Teenarama
    Is what you're givin' me
    (What you're givin' me)
    Teenarama
    Injections in the knee
    (Injections in the knee)
    Teenarama
    All that mellow drama
    Gimme gimme gimme gimme
    Gimme gimme
    Teenarama

    Monday
    School day
    You wait
    Weeks late
    Dirty star
    Coffee bar
    First bra
    Too far

Van's line in "Brown-Eyed Girl" about "making love in the green grass" gets edited by most radio stations these days.

The king of ewww songs has to be "Chevy Van".

I think Van was just being a savvy entrepeneur. He realised how many girls have brown eyes, so he wrote a song which would automatically become 'their song'. He figured (probably correctly) that most of its prime listenership would ignore most of the lyrics and only remember the chorus (that doesn't include radio programmers, of course).
