It's sad that Towne's family stopped printing these DVDs. If you want a new one, you can find them on Amazon -- for $300.oo...or...used, on Amazon & eBay...for anywhere from 100 to 300 dollars.
It's a great documentary. Damn that price.
At one time...you could watch it on Netflix. Not any more. The hawks of greed have got their claws in this one.
Even YouTube pulled it down last week.
I guess someone does NOT want anyone to learn about Townes and his music.

Love Townes. I was schooled in Austin Texas and heavily involved in the blues and music scene there in the mid 80s.

Still love his music. And would love to see the documentary.

I saw it years ago on a cable channel -- either Sundance or IFC. I was mesmerized.
Saw it on Netflix more recently. And then YouTube...and then...gone.

Just gone. I wish they'd at least print more DVDs.

Same here-- first saw it on Sundance or IFC. I'd never heard of Van Zandt before. I was floored.
I refuse to listen to the CDs. The original LPs are SUPER-expensive...but I will wait until I find them cheap sometime, somewhere.

Wow. I got a used copy of the DVD almost exactly a year ago on eBay for less than ten bucks. The current asking prices are insane. Best keep an eye out on eBay, with enough patience a more reasonably-priced copy should eventually turn up.

Before I got the DVD, I'd downloaded it off YouTube, but if the upload that just got yanked is the same one I saw, it was lower-resolution than the DVD and didn't look all that great on a screen larger than a phone or tablet. Still a shame that it's gone, as it's a fine tool to recruit more people to the Church of TVZ.

Well good luck with that. I picked up Flying Shoes from Walmart online on vinyl and it was less than $15. Came with code for a digital download. I have access to most all his other albums through Google Play Music. I'm not going to deprive myself of excellent music by restricting formats or paying through the nose for original vinyl when I found the reissue very satisfying.

As far as "Be Here To Love Me" I did catch it on YouTube before they took it down. I thought I knew about crazy Rock Stars until I saw that and I feel re-educated. First one I saw who huffed airplane glue. Those who have watched it will know what I'm talking about. I really hope his kids will give a musical career a go. As far as "greed", well that's what happens when you marry three times, get royalty checks, and then pass on.

I know there are re-issues, I kinda want the original pressings. But I wouldn't be against re-issues as long as they are AAA.
Now that I think about it...I should go ahead and try some re-issued vinyl.

You won't be out that much money with the reissues if you don't find them satisfactory and I'm sure you could sell them here if that turns out to be the case.

I should have done my research before making this thread! I just ordered the DVD from Jeanene Van Zandt's official Townes Van Zandt website:
    TVZ Records - TVZ Records
    How much? $22.00
And all of Townes' records are there for sale, too (reissues).
