In every single case unless it's a a totally minty record on a kick ass table, like a grand and up. I totally prefer the digital version.

From the title, I thought this was going to be a thread where people who enjoy both mediums helpfully listed individual instances of CDs that sound better than original vinyl releases. Nope. Way too hopeful.

Yes, of course - because no noise, distorsion, pops and crackles.

I own predominantly CDs but the vinyl I do own has an entirely different character. Neither is better. Both are great. Generally vinyl is better on albums from the vinyl age IMHO. But I would rather rip the CD to my iTunes library!

The only one I can think of is Divers by Joanna Newsom. On the vinyl release, all the discrete musical elements separate out whereas on the CD, you get a sort of sonic soup (1) which suits the songs and the atmosphere better.

Mostly, I’ll only have a record on one physical format. Where I have both, it’s usually because I’ve picked up a second hand vinyl copy of an album I’ve loved on CD. Almost invariably, i’ll prefer the vinyl but this could just be because the listening experience is more involving.

    (1) I have never claimed to be an audiophile.

In general, I usually prefer the CD but it's never based on SQ. It's more about surface noise and convenience. In regards to sound quality, records are better.

I very much like our wood floor although it is prone to scratching from the dogs.

In the beginning I had lp's and cd's. Sometimes I liked the cd more and sometimes the lp
It's not the format for me but how it's mastered.
I have a expensive hobby (music and audio) so I decided to choose On format over the other.
I decided in favour for the cd. I bought many great mastered cd's partly Thanks to this forum.

Black is a great choice, Vdigital. It 'goes' with so many things.

The Smiths, Morrissey, Nick Cave, Nick Drake..................

I love the CD medium: done right, there is nothing that comes close.

I dislike the compromises that are inherent in the vinyl medium, plus the 'excessive' amount of care that is required to preserve records (taping them once, then never playing them again seems to be the preferred solution for a lot of people).

As far as I'm concerned, the LP evolved into the CD, which represents a higher stage of music-carrying evolution. I don't expect that view to be welcomed on this forum, though.

I always thought the CD was rather forced upon us to sell ys the same music over and over (and over) again. Around 1984 the industrie promised a peaceful co-existence but then did their best to terminate vinyl.

I guess the CD has two major problems that eventually led to it's.... demise is the wrong word, since CDs are still around so let's call it lack of popularity: The fact that you can duplicate it at home and the fact that artwork doesn't always translate well to a small silver disc in a plastic box.

That said that at the moment I'm just rediscovering old, unremastered CDs from the 80's - that can be had dirt cheap - and have to admit I like the sound of some of them, like Eurythmics on RCA.
