It doesn't sound like Bob Dylan, any 360 sound original will instantly show you what I mean. To use a friends term, it's "soapy". Like there
is a film over the midrange. The original has an "etched" vocal with more nuance and air.

Interesting. Have you listened to the MFSL 45rpm stereo and compared also?

    No I have not.
To add to the above, it makes his voice sound processed so tonally it sounds like a facsimile of Dylan. It has lost it's palpability.

    Agree. ‘Palpability’ is the word.

Have not really kept update with this thread however I am finally going to get off my a** and buy the 3 disc 45 room Blonde On Blonde box set.
    A few questions:
Is MOFI still on the original first pressing (3000 copies) of this set?
While no longer available direct from MOFI places like Elusive Disc and Acoustic Sounds have it in stock - so why then
    - does Sound Stage Direct indicate "awaiting for repress"
    - and why are there numerous copies on eBay listed for over $100 if Elusive and Acoustic have it for $85?

    Thanks

If MOFI is out of stock it's likely in need of repress. Soundstage has sold out of their inventory and won't have their order filled until they are repressed. Elusive and AS haven't yet sold out of their inventory. Sellers on eBay always overprice potential collector's items just waiting for it to actually be rare or for someone who hasn't bothered to do a thorough search for what they want.

    Thank you for the reply
So the original claim of limited 3000 copies was bogus if they are going to do a repress?

  9. MFSL never presses all 3000 units at once. Usually for a 3000-run release, they will press 1500 units first. It's a way to fix things if a mistake or production error slips into the first run. The second 1500 units are what you are calling a repress.

At least that is what is done for their SACDs most of the time.

Bear in mind it's one person's opinion. Your LP hasn't just suddenly changed.

The vocal on the MFSL 45rpm sounds great to me. And the vocal is mostly, if not all, in the centered. I don't have an original tp compare though.

I don’t have the LP as yet. That’s why I’m disappointed to hear two people voice this opinion.

I agree. We all have different hearing and playback our records on different equipment so what a record sounds like is purely subjective IMO.

For my experience ,and with my sistem the MOFI Freewheelin ' mono (and all others Dylan MOFI titles) sound very well.
The presence sensation is very close to the real event, despite mono registration.
I also have all the Miles Davis titles that confirm the MOFI great work.

So how does the MFSL's mono SACDs sound when compared to the mono box set CDs?

There's a thread about the mono SACDs. In my opinion I think they all sound fuller and less edgy than the Columbia Mono box versions. It's not a huge difference, but significant.

I broke down and bought the mono Freewheelin’. Wow!! The sound is terrific! Definitely not “bland”.

Freewheelin' sounds terrific on the stereo Sony SACD, too.

Cool! How do you like it compared to the stereo?

I prefer the sonics of the stereo pressing, although the mono mix is superior. You won’t be disappointed should you decide to buy the mono version.

  24. I actually think Sony's best Dylan SACD is Freewheelin'.

Right. I don’t believe mofi ever stated a pressing limit for the stereo series. Only the monos are limited to 3000.
