  1. "Apocalyptic folk" combo Death In June were partial to masks, especially frontman Douglas P.

Surely one of the most effective disguises was that as worn by Davy Jones.

Almost continually from 1972* to his death, the world observed Mr Jones don the mask David Bowie, and David Bowie became Ziggy Stardust (so effectively that many segments of the community believed and continue to do so, that the behaviour and costumes that were worn onstage and in interviews were David Jones, not realising that the whole public persona as an act).

Like the elderly Chinese illusionist in the movie "The Prestige" (who in everyday public life appears frail and weak, but in reality is stronger than most of us), Mr. Jones wore his disguises so well (Aladdin Sane, Halloween Jack, The Thin White Duke and not forgetting David Bowie), that he mostly didn't need any additional costuming.

His performance on stage in the play The Elephant Man, where the audience soon accepted the disfigurement of the character he played despite the lack of any prosthetics, is truly representative of the skills of the disguises he wore whilst in the music world.

    * David Jones took the name David Bowie in late 1965 (before the emergence of The Monkees), but so as to not be confused with Davy Jones from Manchester who had a public profile. Arguably prior to 1972 and Ziggy Stardust, Bowie was much less of a disguise.

Let's Active played in Detroit on or around Halloween in the 80's and did their encore dressed up. I think Mitch was a wolf and I think Angie Carlson was Little Red Riding Hood.

John's backing band at the Lew Grade tribute wore masks on the back of their heads as some sort of dig at the guest of honor.
