Look, if David Chase in involved, its going to be good. And personally, I LOVED the flashback scenes....it gave us a welcome respite from the same 4 Sopranos locales : The back room of The Bing, Tonys house, Satrialles, and The Stripper room of The Bing .

And in the flashback scenes they didnt miss a trick.....Uncle Junior and Johnny Boy drove Lincoln Continentials....which was perfect.

This is a good idea and I'm all for it.

Maybe they could sneak a young kid into the script, a teenager observing events in the background, who's growing up there in gangsterland New Jersey, named Springsteen ....

Tellyawhat, a few nights ago I came upon a 2-part doc on Amazon Prime, a behind the scenes look at the Sopranos. Very informative and entertaining but it really slammed the point home about Gandolfini being the heart and soul of this show! I hope it's better than the last HBO period piece; Vinyl. As I recall, there were quite a few Sopranos alumni working in that one.

I don't need Gandolfini in the prequel. The character, yes. But he is not everything. To nix the project because the actor is dead / or too old to play the part suggests that nothing else in the program was of value. A prequel by this writer and producer can have a lot to offer. Get a younger actor and get on with it.

I want to see this film get made, too.
And I want it to be a gangster epic, not less than three hours, on the big theatrical screen.

    BRING IT ON.

definitely a four hour movie with the home video version Directors Cut of an additional 2 hrs...6 hrs would fill the void left by that fluffernutter ending.

I'm hoping it will be something like my favourite film, Goodfellas. Although that being based on a true story gives it a different edge for me.

I don't know. Watching a 10 year old, soon to be ferocious Tony Soprano get picked on by his sister doesn't seem like that compelling of a watch.

It would have to revolve around Tony's father and uncle, with young Tony being a background character.

Tony Soprano will probably be in his twenties in the prequel movie.

It takes place in the 60's. Tony Soprano was born in 59. He has to be a kid. If he's in it at all

    Don't worry about it.
David Chase knows what he's doing.
He did it right from 1999 through 2007 and he'll do it right now.

Also, the UK series Endeavour, currently my favourite show. I actually like Endeavour much more than Inspector Morse.

Yes, it's hard to imagine any version of the Sopranos world without Gandolfini, but I am optimistic and hopeful for this.

The actor who played Johnny Boy Soprano was excellent.

That is a problem with me. Now you have 3 actors playing the same characters!

I am sure with them growing up you have even more. What a cluster.

Yes, and Junior's house, various hospitals and doctors offices, various attorney offices, FBI offices, Vesuvio's and a dozen other restaurants and clubs, plenty of random New Jersey streets/lots/houses, Artie's house and back yard, Livia's house, Johnny Sac's house, stables/racetrack, various casinos (including Vegas and AC, Barone sanitation offices, Columbia U dorms...need I go on? The show did not suffer from lack of scene variability, even without the flashbacks.
