I'm still Workin' feel my head Steamin' but soon I'll be Walkin' home for some Cookin' first and then Relaxin' with some jazz & conversation
I love Matador. When i first bought it many years ago i wasn't feeling it at all and traded it. Then a few years ago i was in a restaurant having dinner with my wife and My Favourite Things was playing over the sound system. Something clicked and i was blown away... i ordered a copy of the CD as soon as i got home. Now it's a favourite, particularly that version of My Favourite Things. Green is so restrained but he's BURSTING at the same time. I love it.
Lon, does this sound different from the budget CD CDSOL put out in 2012? I know that sounded nice, but it was a bit too loud imo. CD Japan says this UHQCD was remastered in 2017.
I Dig your Blue Moods. You are Miles Ahead I'm gonna Get Up With It and have Big Fun but In A Silent Way
It sounds better to me. . . perhaps a bit less "loud" (the loudness of that series didn't bother my system, but this one is a bit less "loud" I believe.) Tonal balance is a bit thinner but not excessively so.
Ms. Allen was arguably the finest pianist of her generation, you have much enjoyable listening ahead of you.
Jefferson Airplane "Surrealistic Pillow" Culture Factory cd Holy Cow! The Monoblocks are dishing this out big time!
I didn't know about that one but it sounds good. Geri Allen was a real force of nature. She could play anything.
Initially I wasn't real impressed with Grant Green's playing. What kind of jazz guitarist doesn't play chords? Once I clued in to what he was doing with his single note style I was suddenly a big fan. I think I ended up buying all of the Music Matters and Analogue Production reissues. I've avoided his funk years (so far) though I'm sure there are tracks I'd like. Maybe some day. NP Randy Weston - Tanjah (Polydor) red label Melba Liston arrangements are a bonus.
I'd been listening to this on YouTube, but managed to pick up a brand new copy (CD) on Discogs & it sounds 1,000 times better on my stereo. What a stunning album, I've listened to it three times in the last 24hrs...
And where would the clouds be, if not- in the sky, when I die? What reason could I give- to live? Only that I love you...
Miles Davis - Tutu I've tried, maybe not hard enough, but those 80s synthesizers sounds are too much for me. Still I love Portia. The title track is nice as well. I don't know how many CDs and boxsets I have from Miles 60s and 70s. But 80s... one single compilation. This time around he was following, and I guess it shows (IMO). Going to play Portia one more time...
Jordi Savall/Weiland Kuijken "Sieur de Sainte-Colombe--Concertos a Deux Violes Egales" Disc 1 of this excellent 2 SACD set.
Cannonball Adderley - Fiddler on the Roof Don't see much mention of this one. I think it's a real gem, but it may or may not help that i am completely unfamiliar with the original musical. Great band too: Cannonball Adderley - alto saxophone Nat Adderley - cornet Charles Lloyd - tenor saxophone, flute Joe Zawinul - piano Sam Jones - bass Louis Hayes - drums The title track smokes:
