The album was savaged in Rolling Stone because of George's "sour" voice. He should not have recorded with that kind of problem.

I would take all of these and then take 3 or 4 from Extra Texture.

IMO, it is a bit of a masterpiece, I specifically like the progressive rock edge on several songs - a wonderful album of an acquired taste.

Voted for Ding, Horse, and Simply Shady. Flush the rest. Sometimes just being an ex-Beatle isn't enough.

I used to love Ding Dong when I was younger. As I grew older, I realized how it is kind of a facile track with pretty lazy songwriting. I don't hate it, I just appreciate it much less...

[Although I do wonder about some of the words they are singing. There are some in the later "Ding Dong Ding Dong" choruses that sound distinctly like other words, but I can't quite figure out exactly what the other words are... something like "??? ??? His Song"]

Yes, I do like his Bye Bye Love. Never quite understood all the hate for it... It's a somewhat light-hearted, self-deprecating look at his split, through the filter of a musical classic.

At the end, George starts singing: "Dark ding horse dong...."

I definitely like Extra Texture MUCH more than Dark Horse. I never understood all the hate that ET gets.

I was thrilled with the single Dark Horse. I don’t mind the voice and love the lyrics, instrumentation, interesting chord changes. It’s a really great track. I also voted for Far East Man, Simply Shady and So Sad.

Tough time for George, and I liked a good bit of the album. So Sad was probably the song on the album I liked most, but not the only one.
I kind of wish George had not jumped on the LA Express train, but he did.

I Don't Care Anymore is a tough listen and I remember playing it often when released as the B side of Dark Horse.
I view it sort of like how Joni Mitchell describes her Blue album:
"At that period of my life, I had no personal defenses. I felt like a cellophane wrapper on a pack of cigarettes. I felt like I had absolutely no secrets from the world and I couldn't pretend in my life to be strong. Or to be happy."
I get that same feeling from McCartney's "From A Lover To A Friend".

Harry's On Tour Express and Dark Horse were the only ones I cared to vote for.

DARK HORSE and EXTRA TEXTURE were a real down turn for George after the great ALL THINGS MUST PASS and the decent followup LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD.

He would recover with the very good 33 1/3 and the excellent GEORGE HARRISON.

I've always loved Dark Horse, especially the deep spirituality of "Far East Man" and It Is He." As for his ravaged vocals, they're not nearly as ravaged as Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, or latter day Bob Dylan, yet no one ever takes them to task for it. I personally like it much better than the bleak divorce album Extra Texture.

Speaking for myself, my problem with Extra Texture is that after opening with the great "You", it goes into too many slow, sad songs in a row, and for me, with a few exceptions, 3 slow songs in a row can sink and album like a stone. When it finally picks up the tempo again at the end, it's for the dumb funk of "His Name Is Legs." To my ears, it's mainly just a depressing divorce album. Maybe it will grow on me or suddenly click with me at some point, but I'm still waiting for that. Haven't played it in a couple of years, but I'm a Harrison completist, so it's a keeper.

You're mentioning nearly all ingredients that makes an album good, the only difference is where you feel depressed I feel deeply emotionally connected and alive.
