The first time we went to Texas it was in the 90s in March. It was awful.

I don't have any Mozart Symphonies by JEG but do have the Complete Symphonies by Hogwood and Pinnock. It appears JEG's Mozart Symphonies are not that highly rated by Amazon reviewers ...

No state income tax and relatively low costs of living are both big plus for TX. Unfortunately, the very hot weather is a non-starter for me ...

The house I bought here probably would have cost twice as much in the Philadelphia area.

    Completely agree.

As a comparison, some harshness in the sound quality on the Fricsay Dvorak/Smetana/Liszt CD I posted above (#24349), would prevent me from describing it in that way even though I enjoyed the performances.

Harpsichord music on the turntable now...

This is a 1969 LP from Turnabout, with Janos Sebestyen playing 12 Keyboard Sonatas by Spanish composer Soler (b. 1729).
His complete name is Antonio Francisco Javier José Soler. Fine compositions--sounding very much like Bach.

My copy is the South African vinyl using metal parts cut by George Piros which is same as the US pressing.
Interestingly it sounds better than the US original copy (also cut by Piros) which is rather dull sounding.
The QC of US Mercury vinyl in the period was pretty sloppy and tend to be noisy. The better pressed US vinyl, if any, may sound as good as (or better than) the South African. But it appears that it is not easy to pick up one unless you are very fortunate.

Violin Sonatas Op. 30 #1, and Op. 96, performed by Emmy Verhey on violin and Carlos Moerdijk on piano.
Her tone is very pleasing; nothing harsh at all.
