The first has a pig in the air, the second has one in the air and one on the ground.

Would prefer a king crimson or Tull style set. Those immersion boxes were tough on the wallet.

  5. I use this as the desktop background on my PC at work -- an even more hi-res (i.e. 'bigger') version that this -- and it's pretty damn glorious.

The flying pig isn't quite as noticeable, nor is the power-station quite a prominent -- and it all just looks like a wild, dramatic industrial scene - with all the clouds and such.

Nobody who doesn't know it's Pink Floyd related, would never guess.

To be perfectly honest, I've gotten *less and less* enamored with nearly all of Pink Floyd's various album covers over the years (I'll be 50 next year, and have been a fan for 30 odd years now). With the lone exception of the cover for Animals, which is just as incredible as always. A few of the more obscure 45 picture-sleeves float my boat quite nicely (especially the international ones) -- but none of the core catalog's covers have any of the mystique (at least for me), that I used to associate with them 20-30 years ago. Except Animals.

For those who are interested, the power station was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott who also designed the amazing Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Waterloo Bridge and other similarly imposing buildings.

    Giles Gilbert Scott - Wikipedia

However, Scott is best remembered not for one of his iconic buildings, but for the red telephone boxes which were used throughout the UK in the days of the GPO.

    What a legacy!

It is easy to imagine Battersea as a cathedral to power generation.

I may be optimistic but is it possible the band is preparing a box set of all studio albums with a new sacd w new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes? And release each album individually in the sacd format. Either way excited to hear that Animals 5.1 may be released this year.

I seriously doubt it, with the recent reissue campaign.

Thanks! Agree. It’s been 7 years since the discovery immersion reissue campaign. Wishful thinking on my part but after the Early Years release would be great to have all 15 albums proper on sacd w full liner notes by Rontoon who I have learned is simply a source of incredible information about the band. Thanks all.

Not the "Early Years" stuff, but look at what's been happening with the material after that (1973+), there's a reasonable chance we'll see 5.1 mixes for every album recorded after 1972.

Guthrie has said that he was doing 2 5.1 channel mixes of The Wall, one for the movie and another one for the album. He said the movie was first. BTW he said it would take years of work.

No one is holding their breath.

If word ever leaks of the movie on Blu Ray it’s close or if he personally says he gives up, or what ever, then it’s over. There’s no way that they would give up on it without saying that they tried but failed

He said there was a “reasonable chance” we’ll see 5.1 for everything after 1972 - presumably including The Wall. For several obvious reasons I don’t think there is a reasonable chance we’ll see a 5.1 mix of The Wall. One, Guthrie’s comments were years ago. Two, the opportunity came and went with the Immersion box. Three, the multi-tracks are apparently quite a challenge to work with.

I’d like to see it too and sure there is always a chance PF, Inc will pull a rabbit out if their hat. But there is little reason to think there is a reasonable chance it will happen. Sorry if my comment upsets people’s wishful thinking disguised as informed likelihood but I live in the real world.
