Artists whose new releases you buy automatically without thinking about it first

Joni, Paul Simon, Dylan, Van, James Taylor. Those are the first that come to mind. Oh, wait, I forgot Emmylou and Lucinda.

 

Just about the only one in this category for me is Dylan.

 

Automatic only for that rarest of occasions: newly exhumed material from the usual suspects. VU stuff, the Some Girls bonus disc, Zep outtakes, and new JHE live shows f'rinstance. That's about it.

The same exact thing for me, as did not care for the single released from that album and the poor reviews of the album had me skipping it. Loved everything since 'Bloodflowers' though.

 

Used to be Bowie now it's Greg Dulli.

With my automatic purchase of the new Ray LaMontagne album, he's made my list of "auto buy" artists. I've dropped several in the last few years (Tori Amos, Bjork, Ryan Adams, Belle and Sebastian, Jewel), so my list stands like so:

Just about every artist that I love has been bumped from the auto buy list. Nothing against the artist but all of them have released so-so albums and also there's just so much damn good music around aside from my favorites that I want to discover.

Until this past year I always bought new releases by Wilco, Okkervil River, The Decemberists, Yo La Tengo (and others), but I find myself not having gotten any of those 4 ... if I get some money this coming month I'll get them, certainly sometime this summer
