Instead of picking one, I'm just going to throw a few out there that are in heavy rotation on my turntable lately - Leo "Bud" Welch - I Don't Prefer No Blues Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers Buddy Guy - Sweet Tea
Hound Dog Taylor Baby! And seeing you hail from Mississippi I'll throw in: Junior Kimbrough - All Night Long Othar Turner - Everybody Hollerin' Goat T Model Ford - Pee Wee Get My Gun
B. B. King Live In Japan - B. B. King (MCA) CD Recorded March 1971, Sankei Hall, Tokyo, Japan. Originally released as double ABC-LP. BB King plus seven other band members blast, rock and pound out the Blues, live in Japan.
Now playing: Albert King - Live Wire/Blues Power I've not posted in here since - too long to even think about. But I've certainly been playing some... just happens that it's often been on my phone, when I've been travelling - which is a great way to get into the music! Anyway, I know I've said many times on the forum that this is my favourite live album of all time AND favourite bluesman. I can't rate this highly enough.
One of my all time favourites. The bonus tracks on the CD reissue are well worth it too if you don't have it.
Been quiet here for a while. My favorite today is Buddy Guy's "DJ Play My Blues", specifically the 2010 SACD re-mix that I downmixed from 5.1 to 2.0 stereo to get a more dynamic version. The stereo layer on this disc is atrociously compressed dynamically. The tunes are great, though, and the recording quality is high, so it sounds pretty sweet on a headphone rig (and in high res to boot )!
I don't have time this morning but when I get back home from work I'm going to give a listen to Freddie King Freddie King Is A Blues Master
I'd like to know myself as I'm intersted in another collection on Jasmine (Percy Mayfield Complete As & Bs), but I'm unsure of their track record as a label for sourcing their music, their mastering quality, etc. I got lucky and scored a mint copy of the double disc "Complete Recordings Of Jimmy Rogers" on Chess/MCA for a mere $5 at a record fair. By the way, someone is selling a VG copy of this on discogs (in the U.S.) for $6 plus shipping. You may want to go this route; it's an extra disc of recordings and I can confirm the quality/dynamics are excellent. I imagine it'd come out to about $10 with shipping.
Anxiously waiting for the supposedly AAA / Kevin Gray mastered reissue from Sundazed / MH of this in a few weeks! Listening now online...
How'd you like it? It looks great and I thank you for bringing it to my attention. This is one of the reasons I love this forum so much!
I have been looking at this via amazon uk but it's a bit pricey... amazon us is much better but after shipping, I am in the same boat... that's why I was curious about this 2016 ish and its mastering... Edit: I have other Chess/MCA 50th anniversary CDs and am happy with them so I am sure this would be ideal... your confirmation will probably make me go this route.
