I was in the mood for Maui '7o today, so I popped in the Bob Terry source for the shows. It's definitely nice to have the audience tape patched info tracks like the 1st set "Hey Baby".
My two alternate universe versions of War Heroes. First the one I mentioned in the posthumous thread that acts as a dark mirror version of Rainbow Bridge and a Reprise Band of Gypsys album: Message of Love/Midnight/Bleeding Heart/Beginnings/Stepping Stone (single)/Power of Soul/Machine Gun (live at Berkeley)/Izabella (single) Then I was able to come up with a version from songs in Amazon Prime that they could have, and probably should have, released (just swapped out the two lowest quality tracks for the B-sides and added a song to side 2 since it's less than 17 minutes.): Bleeding Heart/51st Anniversary/Tax Free/Highway Chile/Stepping Stone/Midnight/Somewhere/Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice (stereo)/Beginnings/Izabella Jeffrey should have left well enough alone, something like this would have been closer in quality to CoL and RB than the one that was released. Still not as good, but closer. And it still would have left some good tracks if he still insisted on Loose Ends (Come Down Hard/Drifter's Escape/the 2 BoG songs/Taking Care of No Business)
the war heroes version of "bleeding heart" is amazing. whats the story on that one. im trying to recall if it reappears elsewhere in the catalog.
That version is currently on South Saturn Delta. Hoping for a War Heroes reissue someday like CoL & RB, but this time, I'd take a few bonus tracks like 51st to make it a bit more complete.
I've played it twice this week... then made a playlist on my phone of some of the tracks to drift off to sleep to last night. Very much due to this thread: The Jimi Hendrix Experience Electric Ladyland Song by Song Thread Then today I realised I'd forgotten about this thread that I'd started up. Naughty.
Hey Joe b/w 51st Anniversary ................ the EH / UMG Re press of the first JHE US single release.
Both Sides Of The Sky, just arrived hours ago. Ordered Sunday, from Import CDs. Last night, I changed my cover photo on Facebook to a shot of the Band Of Gypsys. Today, my real-life friend, Dennis Winters ( The Winters Brothers Band ) posted " Have known Billy for years He is a great guy " Love that Nashville connection.
Axis. Bold as Love mono on a mono set up. This is the legacy BG repress. Wow, wow, wow! No stereo distraction and the power and depth of this pressing is impressive.
I have a matrix recording of Jimi Hendrix – 4/25/1970 Live At The Los Angeles Forum. I wish it had been filmed and recorded like Berkeley. It wasn`t but I still enjoy it.
Nine to the Universe, one of my favorites. If he was still with us I think he might be doing a lot of jazzy improvisational jamming like this.
There are at least a handful of noticeable differences in the mix and anyone who likes/loves the album must do so IMO.
I always liked the mono of this album but playing it with a mono cart' changes everything. Back when it came out I was listening to the mono but on a less than stellar set up to be honest. So now after all these years being able to hear it as it should be heard is fabulous. Playback is better than I ever heard before.
