I have little idea who is in the Hall of Fame. It's not anything I spend much time thinking or worrying about. So I'd have to spend time looking it up. I just think the idea that objective criteria wouldn't be big factors is kind of ridiculous. I wouldn't only use objective criteria, and as I noted, I wouldn't personally vote for Joan Jett (I have no idea if she's already in the Hall or not), but things like record sales, concert receipts, media mentions, influence per explicit mentions + identifiable musical characteristics, etc. should be important factors in my opinion.

You don't but, it also means your not the complete package.

  3. Does she deserve to be in? To me, sure. I would think it would be as part of The Runaways and there are plenty of other female artists that should be in there that broke the barrier such as Fanny but, with Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, she was more successful than The Runaways so I guess I could see that. I don't think the fact that she's gay or a gay icon would play a role per se but it might have helped. Who knows.

lol, shes been in for three years. I think an earlier thread about joan went the exact same direction "...what about tupac.....that isn't rock and roll....she didn't write.....what about Sinatra Elvis.....album sales should be a factor...." im getting deja vu. but yeah, album sales should count for 'something' but that's a slippery slope until it becomes the peoples choice awards

Apparently the thread starter knew this all along, it's the title of the thread itself that's misleading. It should read "Did Joan Jett deserve her 2015 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?" or something along those lines.

All I said was it should matter. There are many ways to "have a significant impact" so even if it's not a listed criteria, or just as likely one they don't want to advertise, it ends up being one just from the nature of the business. There are plenty of acts in the HoF that you would be stretching it a bit by calling them influential or ground breaking, so what does that leave you? Sales. I'd argue that millions of people buying your music is having a significant impact. Even if the act isn't groundbreaking. i.e. Bon Jovi.

Yes, it is kind of misleading. I assumed everyone knew she was inducted, my bad!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY 2018! everyone! (I did capitalize all the artist names)

Not upset she got in, I met the Runaways backstage at the the Whiskey in early 77' (Moon Martin/the Dickies). Joan was passionate even back then, but, I think the Runaways also deserve to be in the HOF!

You are correct. Elvis Presley never wrote songs either. There’s already a sonwriters hall of fame

  20. I think, generally, that the Hall looks at the whole package i.e., bands that can write their own material, have sold well, have had a cultural impact or influenced others, etc. There are som
