I picked up MASTERPIECE today as it was touted to have the "original length songs for the first time ever on CD"--compared it to my ancient Motown CD and the track lengths are exactly the same give a second or two here and there. Maybe they were referring to the twofer of MASTERPIECE and A SONG FOR YOU from a few years back? Did they trim some MASTERPIECE tracks to get both albums onto one disc, I wonder. So far I prefer the sound of the older disc; probably a John Matousek job. Mids (vocals) clearer and realistic. Packaging on the new one is quite nice so if you can't find the original it's a perfectly acceptable alternative--no loudness wars issues on this one.

I've never actually heard 'Masterpiece' on CD, so good to know it is decent one,
although the title song plus 'Plastic Man' are both on disc two of the 'Psychedelic Soul' compilation from 2003. I am actually doing comparisons of the songs on 'Puzzle People' and 'Psychedelic Shack' that overlap on 'Psych. Soul', and so far I am hearing a bit more detail on the new remastering. Whether that is due to careful transfer or due to coming from a better source (first gen. analogue master reel) or both I can't be sure, but there is a cleaner sound overall with more texture. I will definitely be getting the other titles in the next week or so !

Long lost obscurities on CD for first time ever ~ absolute must have for fans of late-50s, 60s, and early-70s existential country. I've literally waited 37 years for this collection and it is absolutely extraordinary. The CD contains 16 tracks not on the L.P. edition (the L.P. contains one song not on the CD)

A record store day release but two copies were still in the bin so I snagged one. This is the Morgan Blue Town 2018 remastered CD; not sure if it's a needle drop or what but the SQ is decent so if it is then it was surely el-minto. I used to have a CD-R sourced from a VG+ vinyl given to me by an old mate long before Akarma and Angel Air had done their reissues, when you could only get it on used vinyl. I had only played that CD-R about three times, and then after about 8 years, the media-layer dyes deteriorated and I couldn't get it to play in any disc player. Very happy to now have it on a proper aluminum-alloy disc that'll likely outlive me !

Based on what's assumed to be coming out this year (most of these are still unconfirmed):

    GUARANTEED PURCHASE:
    Elvis Costello: New CD
Dylan: Bootleg Series Volume 14 box
    Dylan: Live Copyright 2CD set
    Beatles: White Album box
    Prince: Piano & A Microphone 1983 CD
Guns N' Roses: Appetite For Destruction 4CD box
    The Cure: Mixed Up 3CD

    LIKELY:
The Band: Music From Big Pink box

    MAYBE:
    John Lennon: Imagine Box

And that obviously doesn't include any complete surprises that might yet be announced. Gonna be an expensive fall.

yes it is .. already an expensive year and just over half the calendar to go !
I'm definitely down for the Beatles, Prince, The Band, and the Imagine box, and if the second half of '18 is anything like the first half, a lot more other titles as well !

I'm looking forward to the Prince Piano & A Microphone deluxe LP (on Pre-Order)
That's pretty much it for brand new releases. Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to the reissues of Alice Cooper's Flush The Fashion, Dada and Zipper Catches Skin as well as The Time's Ice Cream Castles from the same July Rhino campaign.

Having just released the 1966 lp
"Animalisms" by the Animals this year on both vinyl and CD, British label Secret Records announces the upcoming reissues of the Animals' 1977 lp "Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted" and the 1983 lp "Ark" both due out this autumn (date tba).

In Sept. 7, ABKCO is reissuing on CD the long out of print Cameo-Parkway singles As&Bs recorded in the 1960s by Bob Seger & The Last Heard.

There's a whole thread for that here :

I finally bought this yesterday, listening to the first ('Ahead Rings Out') of two discs in the set right now.

I was a bit (and pleasantly) surprised at the price - 13 USD for 2 discs - newly remastered, on the Chrysalis label. I first thought "uh-oh, probably a slapdash reissue" .. but I was in need of these titles on CD, having heard them but for some godam reason never having managed to acquire them on vinyl or CD before, so I went ahead and grabbed it. Listening on the Bose through loudspeakers I have to say I am not yet disappointed. The packaging was sort of a cheapo job
(thin-ish cardboard digipak; immediately replaced with two new standard jewel cases at home) so that must be why the price was below average for a set of this calibre.

Disc one is a monster of rocking blues-jazz, a real vintage shredder (not 'shred' as in "guitar-shredding".. just a killer band tearing it up as few have ! )
    This one is a gem.

Just picked these three CDs up on my trip to the record store yesterday, along with several others. The first is reissued this year and the later titles ahead of it in 2017. All three are pretty great.
