This is the most tragic (but in a somewhat subtle way) sad song that I've heard in the last decade.



It is a story about mourning the loss of her atheist fiance when he found God and left her. Heartbreaking.

 

I've always thought Diary by Bread was kinda sad

 

I listened to this brilliant and devastating album just one time. I can't bring myself to play it again.

 

Its quite depressing indeed. I have it too, but musically its not extremely enjoyable besides a handful of songs.

Elvis Presley said during his Aloha From Hawaii concert special that I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry was the saddest song he had ever heard. Nice pick!

 

Not just sad, but devastating, given the song's subject.

 

I love sad songs as long as the music itself is good, not just sob story lyrics .

I'll mention "Ships" by Ian Hunter just because it's the first one I thought of.
