A popular sitcom fictionally set in Atlanta “Designing Women” is being revived by its original creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Sony Pictures, according to TV Line.

The CBS show aired from 1986 to 1993 for seven seasons and featured social commentary and a feminist sensibility. It was never quite as beloved as NBC’s “Golden Girls” and when placed head to head with that show, it lost.

Reboot of ‘Designing Women’ in the works

Too many of the cast have passed on...

CBS Exec #1: “You know what we need? We need a new direction in sitcoms, get back to the old 3 camera format, something that will really attract the younger generation as Big Bang starts to wind down.”

Exec #2: “Maybe something with a modern twist, something involving aspects of the youth culture, twenty-somethings that would enjoy.”

Exec #1: “Yes! Let’s reboot Designing Women! Old divorced women sitting around complaining about men while redecorating houses is just what we need! Call Delta Burke!”

My initial, non-PC thought it would be guys sitting in a bar, tossing out Weird Science ideas. That could never actually get on the air.

I'd actually love for Meshach Taylor to get cast though.

EDIT: He died in 2014 :(

I'd probably accept T.K. Carter as a replacement for some reason.

That would be quite a feat!...

Considering that it bares a similarity to Cheers I wouldn't be so sure. It seems like remakes/reboots have become like "Let's take a British sitcom and make a U. S. version*" was in the 1970s.

*See Three's Company, All In The Family, The Ropers, Sanford & Son, Too Close For Comfort, and Three's A Crowd (checked via Wikipedia).

At this point, it's easier to list what shows aren't getting a reboot.

Even Reboot has received a reboot! I haven't watched it yet, but I have the same trepidation that I had when seeing Star Wars - Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

Did anyone hear about a possible Saved By The Bell reboot?

Why would a reboot needed for Saved By The Bell? Why not just have a new class at the same high school?

I would like to see a drama show casting Norm McDonald, Kevin Nealon, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog and John Mulaney.

With the exception of Triumph The Insult Comic Dog, I think it is possible that this could work. Although he was well known as a comic, Robin Williams was also able to do drama too. Likewise with Tom Hanks.

I guess the reality show ideas are running out so now we are getting reboots of old sitcoms. I wonder how long this will last?

Didn’t they reboot Baywatch? Maybe I’m thinking of something else.

This is a CBS-based show...how can they stop, once they land on an originality-free process. If this doesn't end up on CBS, along with Hawaii 5-o, Magnum, Murphy Brown, All In The Family and ten other re-boot projects, than I'll eat my Gerald McRaney autograph...!
