I am not opposed to them putting a "little" cocaine back into Coca-Cola. It'll give you a little more ZIP in your day to relieve fatigue!

It's not. Coke Classic has High Fructose Corn Syrup. Original Coke did not. Mexican Coca Cola is the closest thing you will get to Original Coke.

If you are interested I've come up with an Oscar prediction contest.

Pretty simple, pick the winners but the categories are weighted. With the more obscure categories I went with 1 point only. The next level, 2 points and the major awards, 4 points.
In the major level, there is one double dip allowed, meaning you are allowed to pick two nominees however if you use it you are only awarded 2 points. You are welcome not to use it if you want all 4 points.
In case of a tie, the one with most correct in the top level prevails, if still a tie then the second, then third, still a tie then it's a tie.

Send me your picks through PM and I will post them Sunday morning. The final cut-off is midnight PST on Saturday the 23rd. You can edit your picks during the week.
More the merrier but I know everyone is busy so I appreciate any effort.

Here is the list you can use:

Very fun idea! I have just sent in my predictions to @clashcityrocker. For a couple of categories, I went with what I want to win versus what I think actually will but this is just for fun.

I do my predictions on GoldDerby.com as well. I just think it's kind of a fun game to play. :)

I'm willing to bet this is 100% what's gonna happen. It's that type of year where a little Oscar love gets spread around to everyone/every film, so not to outrage any easily offendable groups or fans.

How much? I don't think so. Green Book is not a lock with some of the issues surrounding the director and screenwriter. I think Weisz has a chance with supporting actress. And for my double dip I'm also picking Spike Lee as best director. And maybe Black Panther for best costumes.

    Best Actor: Christian Bale
    Best Actress: Glen Close
Best Supporting Actor: Richard E Grant

    Best Sound Editing: First Man
    Best Sound Mixing: First Man
    Best Visual Effects: Avengers
Best Animated Feature Film: Spider Man Into the Spider-Verse

I think the supposed "lesser" categories should count for more, because only your huge movie buffs will have seen them to have valid opinions.

Someone who has an opinion about live action short subject should get more credit than the person who prides themself on having seen the Best Picture nominees.

Yes I understand your point, but since most of us can't see them our choices would just be guesses. I feel it's more fun this way.

Yes anyone else be my guest to post your picks on the thread. I just thought seeing other picks could make you sway one or the other but maybe not. Anyways thanks to those who've sent me their picks.

Normally I try to be objective in my Oscar picks, but this year I can't - at least not for Best Actress.

Will Gaga win? Probably not, but dammit, I can't NOT vote for her! :help:

Will also vote for "ASIB" as BP!

Good point - and these will tend to be "educated guesses" because most of us will only know about the "lesser categories" from articles about Oscar predictions!

Good idea, I will get those to you later on. :) Saw Roma last night and really did not like it ! Yes it's black and white and some shots are beautiful but I only had 3 scenes that meant anything to me. There was no story , poor editing IMO .. I believe it will win , in a year of nothing outstanding to me .

In most of the artistic categories (wrongly thought of as the "technical" ones by people who only care about the actors and Best Picture awards) only the nominations count because those are chosen by their peers. Sound mixers, film editors, cinematographers - they are all chosen via members of their respective guilds. Then the full membership votes, who are 80% actors, who have no idea what constitutes great sound mixing and vote for their favorite films.

    The picks are in:

Thanks for the responses. Prediction: Parachute Woman has a very strong line-up meanwhile Ghostworld aka Dan Pussey will finish last but he gets 40 bonus points if Black Panther wins best animated picture.
With my picks I went with the odds in the technical awards and then went upset city on the major awards. Go big or go home. Thanks again for the picks. If someone wants to add their picks go ahead but they won't be counted.
