Thanks for the clarification, but why do the Doors remixes add this crap? I understand the uncensoring / tape speed fixes for the first album, but who actually likes added studio chatter? The extended "Cars Hiss By My Windows" was pretty cool, though.
Agree on the studio chatter. A pretty killer 5.1 mix of Not to Touch the Earth is ruined by the chatter at the end stating (that's the @ss end of it). Save that stuff for the bonus tracks.
The Atmos mixes are a lot different than the prior 5.1 mixes. I’d steer clear of the Atmos mixes. The 5.1 mixes are much, much better. The mixing decisions of the Atmos mixes is poor. You can barely even hear Jim on “Love Her Madly” he’s pushed so low in the mix. He sounds like he’s in another room. Not joking. And the jangly piano is also super low in the mix. The 5.1 absolutely kills it, though. If you can stream Atmos mixes, take these for a spin.
They could also easily put all the Rumours lineup albums on one disc. Or load it with video stuff from the period. A real immersive dive into the album. But nah. Cool for people who refuse to do Apple Music I guess, but so unimaginative and not really justifying the existence of digital physical formats.
But it is fun to hear new stuff if you know these songs like I do. Like Jim's new vocals during the instrumental break in Light My Fire, the extended version of Changling etc.
My hope for any remix, stereo or surround, is to respect the original mixes. If they released a “normal” Atmos mix and then a separate “Alternate Atmos” where they add things in, OK fine. But for the only Atmos mix of these songs you can’t hear Jim on “Love Her Madly”? Why the hell am I even listening? Jim, is that you singing all the way from Paris?? I like extended mixes and chatter, but not in the place of a faithful surround remix. If this was on CD, I’d love an alternate mix of this album with the things you mentioned. That would be awesome.

It’s included in the Super Deluxe Edition that is coming out on March 29. Machine Head (Super Deluxe) (3CD/LP/Blu-ray Set)
i’m thrilled about this, even if i’m only down to get rumours at this point. fingers crossed this series does well and they’re doing tusk after this. i only have a burned copy of the surround mix because the big box was a rhino rep on quadraphonicquad confirmed that the rumours 5.1 is the original 5.1 surround mix. not sure about the rest.
Since Warner has taken over the Bowie catalogue via Parlophone if I recall, perhaps we'll see some updated titles. The title track of Station To Station would make a great demo.
In stereo, sure, but the 5.1 mix from the big box a few years ago is the laziest, most half-baked surround letdown I’ve ever heard. A complete do-over for Atmos and I’ll bite.
All of badfinger's albums are due for proper deluxe editions. Don't really understand why they have left that market untapped.
I haven't heard it yet but you also get the quad mix with this box. I'm wondering if the 5.1 mix is the same as the sacd
