SS or tube. Must be new. Don't want to deal with cap issues or deep seated dirt and the like.

    Rega Brio R; $895 IIRC.

Edit: maybe not the amp to drive Magnepans, though - but I'm not sure*. Replace the Maggies with sensible British monitors, and you've got a boogie monster system.

*Maybe look up Tonepub's review of the Brio online.

If you sold the Maggies, then why not just get the Brio-R?

I am loving my PS Audio Sprout, no tuner, no remote, great power, compact, sounds excellent, under your budget.

I always recommend the Exposure 2010 S2, it's about that price. Plenty of drive and a sweet tone. Brio R is also a fine amp, as is the NAD 3020 D.

Hard to go wrong with any of these.

I've considered the Exposure (stereophile class a) but it's more like 1500 isn't it?

Epos Epic 2. $399 @ Music Direct. Killer deal!
Wharfedale Denton. $499 @ MD. Again, half off list price.
I also like the Wharfedale Diamond series; in particular the 10.1 and 10.2.

I think the lack of tube options might be down to the budget. I could be wrong, but I don't think there are many name brand options for tube amps at the $1,000 level (not new at least).

I would point out that used amps are of course all different. Buying used opens up many more options and it's not all amps requiring a thorough cleaning or parts replacement. You could save up to 50% off list for an amp that is one year old and in 9/10 condition. I just bought a Rogue Tempest II for $1,200 and it's pretty much in perfect shape. Can't buy an amp like that for $1,000 new. It was shipped to me direct from Rogue after they serviced it and upgraded the remote. I don't worry much about getting good service from them going forward should I need it as their reputation is superb.

That said, I respect your desire for a new amp. There is certainly less to worry about than if you buy used. With that in mind, I echo the recommendation of the Rega Brio-R. Never heard one, just going off of pro and user reviews. Seems like Rega really hit it out of the park with this amp.

You are close to the Rogue Sphinx, probably have to come up a to $1150-$1200, get your class D tube integrated w/o remote.
Quite a few positive reviews on it, was my plan to buy until I got the 1/2 price kickstarter Sprout.

Decware Zen Triode S.E.T. amplifier. Made in the USA with Point to Point hand wiring, 2 inputs and volume control. As an option add the stepped attenuator for a total of $1025. 2 of the most high quality bang for the buck watts out there IMO. Excellent bass, holographic 3d soundstage and imaging.

Hook up a source and a pair of efficient speakers around 95db or higher and you will have a rockin' good system.
