I've got 5 of them (Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, Jeff Beck, Clapton and Zappa).

I think I'm good with those. Don't see myself listening to much UB40 and not a BB King fan. Much more of a Albert and Freddie fan.

Why? No explanation, just another list? I mean, there's not even any pictures or youtube videos :)

    I know... :hide:

But in my defense I used to only listen to studio albums and NEVER got live albums unless every song on the live album was new until recently. I've only recently been starting to get into live albums but then only the "must-have" ones for certain artists that I'm a fan of, so eventually I'll probably end up getting all of these.

I have Concerts for Kampuchea, the Beck set, and the Clapton set. At which point can I become one of the Cool Kids, exactly? ;)

The only one I've ever owned is Clapton's Rainbow Concert which I had when it came out but got rid when I got bored with Clapton a couple of decades ago.

Not quite sure what it says about my 'collection' if I don't have them - 'not up to someone else's high standards'? Well, I guess I can live with that...

I cannot single out only ten - 1542 live items on my wishlist and it is still growing... More than enough for the rest of my life. :D

The most anticipated one at the moment:

1 that is probably not in many collections but should be is The Make-Up - After Dark...especially if you're into kick-ass garage rock.

i thought kampuchea was never released on CD.....or are you talking vinyl? or both? or either or?

I have the Kampuchea album. Kind of a disjointed listen...I'm a big fan of about 80% of the bands, but each in their own place.

Also, it was a bad night for The Who. Pete's guitar was out of tune, and he was too drunk and obnoxiously showboaty to care.

I never heard that one. That came out well after they disbanded. After Dark was the only "real" live album up until that one you heard...Destination is the total jam but it is live(ish) studio stuff with crowd noise added. That would be my next pick.

Jacksons Live - really good set, captures the end of The Jacksons and the beginning of the King Of Pop.

OK, understood. I can only comment on these three positions (may I? should I?):

Yeah, that's their classic one, but frankly speaking I would like to check something earlier from their live vault.
Not bad, but IIRC it is severely edited in each version.
Also edited and I think that (out of the official releases) "A Token of His Extreme" is a much better live document from that year now.

The one title I would like to suggest that doesn't appear on many best of lists is
Lucinda Williams Live At The Fillmore

Eric Clapton Rainbow Concert is full of rust since he was a stone cold heroin junkie in 1973. EC Was Here released in 1975 and expanded recently is the live set to own.

    * In my case, a cassette copy I made from the original broadcast in 1985, although I think this may also be available as an MP3 on Wolgang's Vault. At any rate it's some prime Clapton

I currently have two of the actual albums from that list, the ones from Thin Lizzy and Frank Zappa along with The Who's full set from the Concerts for Kampuchea and Pete's songs from the first Secret Policeman's Ball. I used to have the various artists Kampuchea double album when I still collected records and highlights from the fist few Secret Policeman's Ball shows on VHS when I still had a VCR.
