I just found a copy of this album and I hadn't heard it in years so I grabbed it. I was excited that I was getting the stereo version as I assumed it sound pretty good but.... I was horribly wrong!

It must be the worst fake stereo I have ever heard. I though there was something wrong with my gear. The worst part is when you sum it to mono that you get artifacts from this crappy mastering job. The right channel is the track in mono and the left channel is all just murky distant goo.

Except for ONE song! "Knock On Wood" is in true stereo, or binural as the vocals are on the left track.

Should I get a mono copy or has this ever been released in true stereo?

Don't know if a good sounding stereo exists on CD or vinyl. Someone posted this "stereo" mix of Mustang Sally.
sounds sped up but it sounds "interesting".

Hunt down a mono anyway - those mid-'60s Atlantic monos are the bee's knees.

The 45 of Mustang Sally is like hearing the song for the first time. It’s amazing.

I’m guessing this was recorded 4 track?

So, fake stereo is not stereo. I was surprised by the title thinking you found a true stereo copy of this LP!

Aoxomoxoa, I also got burned !!!

Today, I finally found a beautiful original black fan copy of The Exciting Wilson Pickett in the shrink, bought it, took it home and .... WTF!?!?!?! Mega sad trombone. Who would have thought that this would be in fake stereo considering the record is from 1966? I try to avoid fake stereo like the plague.

I guess I have to sell this copy and keep looking for that perfect mono. It sucks because it took years to find this one - every copy I find is scratched and/or scuffed.

Mustang Sally is true stereo, but in a horribly constructed way.
