I read that there were two sets: an early show at 8 pm and a later show at 11 pm. I have no idea if this is accurate, and I have no idea if both shows were recorded if there were 2 shows (also, if both sets were recorded, maybe they chose songs from both sets on the Epic Live Yardbirds LP). But there was a CD release, also on the Mooreland Street label and likely pulled off the market real quick, that included two supposed soundcheck songs: Train Kept A-Rollin and Dazed & Confused.
Mooreland was straight-up selling the CDs through all the online retailers before they got hit with some type of "injunction" or whatnot.. Then, they sold the CD direct to customers, but then they worked out a weird gray-area angle: On their site they were selling very low-end Yardbirds t-shirts for $25 with the added line "With the purchase of every t-shirt comes a free copy of the our 'Live Yardbirds' CD!" I guess that was a way around direct selling of a questionable item but still making a profit and skirting inside the law. Sort of reminds of how beer was sold at lofts and art spaces in NYC that had no liquor license: "Go right up to that counter over there and purchase a raffle ticket for $5. With the purchase of each raffle ticket comes one free beer!"

^^^So it was TWO shows (8 PM and 11 PM) at the Anderson Theater. But what we do not know is whether BOTH were recorded.
It was semi-legit since it had both McCarty and Dreja's blessing as did "Cumular Limit"... both releases were squashed almost immediately since it didn't have Page's blessings... Greg Russo, who wrote a Yardbirds bio, was involved, penning the liner notes under a nom de guerre... He was also the compiler of the Glimpses box set a few years back as well as the Little Games Sessions & More two CD set from the '90s...
Now, mind you this is sheer speculation by a former poster on the Yardbirds Delphiforum, but it is interesting at least... Avalon Rick (who is doing some picture research for these upcoming Yardbirds archival releases) suggests that perhaps the soundcheck tape was Page's since he did record individual shows, demos etc. stockpiling them for the future as he himself has said in many interviews. And as a poster above says, somebody did abscond with a slew of Page's personal tapes. The soundcheck tape showed up as a bootleg a few years later. Probably CT, but weird that the soundcheck boot only showed up in the '90s.
Typical for the period. Not only was tech much more primitive, the folks wiring the shows didn't know what they were doing.
Think About It was not on Little Games. An expanded version of that album was released with bonus tracks, with Think About It mono single version. What LP version are you talking about?
Well, a little bit of compression would be okay. We don't need the needle at 11 at all times, but we want it to have some balls.
Sorry! CT as in "conspiracy theory" not Staples Show. On a related tangent, Page has mentioned before that he heard an audience recording of a Beck/Page show at Fillmore from '66. He heard it shortly after the show. Said it was really good - performance that is; no mention of fidelity. Hasn't surfaced in the last 50 years, though...
No sweat. I've taught myself to not get too excited about things in regards to "lost tapes". But ... wouldn't it be grand IF there's a stellar recording of the Beck/Page lineup sitting in someone's humble abode? Just think about it ...
Yep, know it wasn't on the original release, which was US only. Which kinda informs where they stood with the homeland by then. I think mine is a Charly from The Mid-'80s. Daz right ... A Charly in the Round! ( cue the usual Rudolph sentiment ) From The Island of Misfit Releases
An official remix release of the Anderson Theater show would be fantastic. I am actually surprised that Jimmy seems to be in favor of it now, considering he disliked it so much back in the day. I recall reading that he was dismissive of the person who recorded the concert: he mic'ed the guitar cabinet wrong because he was used to recording orchestras! That's from memory, sorry no citation. Would be great if there was more of the concert available. For example, the shows two month later at the Shrine Auditorium in LA were roughly 80 minutes long. At least one of them includes a medley I have listened to many times over the years despite the dreadful sound quality: Smokestack Lighting/I'm Waiting for the Man. Yes, the Velvet Underground song: .
A lot of stuff is being released so as to avoid becoming public domain. Some kind of 50 year rule under EU regulations.
While you're at it Yardbirds fans........get Greg Russo's book. It's great. There's a chapter on the Anderson Theater/Live Yardbirds LP. Crossfire Publications »
Dunno how Page can clean up this release to his satisfaction, probably not. But hopefully it'll finally be out there.
can't listen to it. I have low standards on 'listenable' (ask my wife), but this is horrible. It's cool to know they did play it, though!
