In the early 80's The Rolling Stones released Tattoo You with 2 uncredited Mick Taylor tracks: "Waiting For A Friend" and "Tops". Taylor sued the band for unpaid royalties, but I've never seen anything written about the end result of the lawsuit.

Does anyone know what happened in the end?

Being that it seems it didn't get to court, I assume there was a settlement.

Are you sure Mick played on Waiting On A Friend? I thought that track was made after his departure.

There is no way that guitar sounds like Keef or Ronny....That is pure Mick Taylor

There's loads of other songs of that era on which he doesn't get a writing credit but should have.

This was a factor in his departure from The Stones, but not the only reason. As with Jimmy Miller.Marshall Chess,Marianne Faithful & others,it was a question of exiting from The Stones' inner circle or be destroyed by the lifestyle.

A shame he left because they lost something they've never regained since.

I always thought that Taylor's parts were taken off the tape when it was worked on for Tattoo You. He was probably suing because the song idea was his. That's my assumption.

Go back and listen closely. Close your eyes and enjoy, because there are soaring guitar parts that were clearly Mick Taylor.

If I remember well, Waiting on a Friend and Tops were recorded when Mick Taylor was a full partner within the Stones (something Wood didn't get until the 90's), which entitles him to get 20% of the artists royalties on any material they had recorded during the era. I'm not sure Taylor gets anything as a band member from Let It Bleed or Metamorphosis but he's supposed to earn money from the other albums he played on.

Apparently, his solo was overdubbed by Sonny Rollins on sax for Waiting but his rhythm part was kept. His hands are also all over Tops but the issue wasn't about songwriting credits. He plays on that track, he was a Rolling Stone at that time, so he's supposed to perceive something like 1.8% from the artists share of the album and 20% from the particular tracks.

It was said that Taylor went into the Stones clean and with a stable marriage, but exited the Stones with a drug dependency and a broken marriage.
Taylor played in a band with Noel Redding on bass and John Coghlan on drums (The original drummer with Status Quo). There was a live recording recorded in Hungary released some years ago. Here's a track featuring the band on Youtube.
Taylor also played with Alvin Lee in 1981. Youtubehttp://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=mick+taylor+alvin+lee&qpvt=mick+taylor+alvin+lee&FORM=VDRE

It's funny, I'm a rock n roll guy and guitar is my thing, but the sax in this song is just one of my all time favorites. It melts me every time. Thanks for the info on Sonny Rollins too. Later in life I expanded my taste and I have a few Sonny Rollins LPs, but I never knew he played this. Very satisfying to learn.

Thanks :)Thought that myself in the first place, judging by ear. I wonder if there's even more prove, as some people insist it's Keith? Any interesting link on the subject is welcome.

Bill Wyman said "If the band brings in one million a year, there a big difference in what Keith gets and what I get"
Wyman also said that he was promised a writing credit for his bass work on "Miss You" but was sadly disappointed when the credits were printed on the label. Exit another disillusioned Stone.

Hardly. Miss You was released in 1978. Wyman left the stones in 1992. He was happy enough to stay on for 14 years.

Bill only left when the groupies got too old. Once they stopped being under 20, he got out of there. ;) Arnie

This has come up with Van Halen as well. Hagar apparently got a small pay off when the DLR reunion track in the mid 90's included a backing track written when he was in the band. Roth/Mike could have sued over songs written during their time with the band and used in lineups that excluded them but they chose to leave the VH brothers alone.
